    2012 TTRS Build Thread

Due to Facebook groups being a complete pain in the ass to do ANY sort of research and learn about this platform and it's modifications, it sent me back to the good ol' forums to dig around - which made me realize that I should create a thread for my car to help localize some information and progress should someone else find themselves in my shoes.

I bought my car in July of 2017 from Audi of Rochester Hills, just outside of Detroit. I had been searching for a TTRS for roughly a year with Suzuka Grey as my only desired color, a few offers were put out on cars but none came to fruition. I had come across the listing for the car I would eventually end up buying, and the listing had no photographs uploaded which seemed odd. I rang up the dealer and asked for photos, which surprised them as they thought they had posted images. Upon receiving the photos, the car was too clean to pass up and I made an offer. One quick trip to Detroit and a 12 hour drive home later, I had my first dream car.

My end goal for the car is to be a "Clubsport" TTRS with around 600hp - a highly capable street car with a track focused suspension setup that can carve up the odd track day here and there with the best of them.

Modifications as of May 23rd, 2020

    • Corsa turboback exhaust
    • 034 Motorsports carbon fiber intake

Nice looking car. Does the same supplier make the exhaust for apr? They look identical.

Correct, Corsa is the manufacturer and I believe they had a deal with APR to brand/sell the exhaust as well. Some of the examples out there will have APR stamping and others will not.

Good to know. I know the DP looks like it has apr cast into it but I have not seen anything on the catback. I'm sure to see as now it feels the awd is not working.😔

Torque delivery on the B5 was very punchy and low in the powerband, but you could really feel it die out around 4500. TTRS is very linear and strong power delivery through to redline. Much better driving experience IMO.

    Your TTRS looks great .

The stance looks good and flush on the BBS rims, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Aren't the multi piece BBS rims heavier than the stock TTRS rims?

I believe I looked at a similar set at my local rim shop. They weigh about 37-38lbs a rim without tires.

The stock (albeit not lightweight rims either weigh approximately 32-34lbs, same as the RS6 rims I have on my TT right now).

The amount of weight you saved by swapping out the exhaust system was put back on with the rims. Again I may be mistaken as some BBS rims are hella light for their size.

What's your output now and on how much boost?

When I purchased my TT the closest TTRS was in Niagara Falls in Ontario Canada and it was a US model with high mileage. It was still 10 grand more than what I ended up paying for the TT. That 8J TTRS is a classic in the making.

    Great ride.

Thanks, appreciate the compliment! The LM-Rs are definitely lighter than the OEM 5 arm rotor wheels, probably by 5-10lbs a wheel if I had to guess. Which is pretty in-line with your OEM wheel weight quote and what BBS lists as a weight for the LM-Rs (10.9kg per wheel, 24lbs).

The car currently has the OEM clutch still installed, so I've only turned boost up to ~21lbs to preserve clutch longevity. Butt dyno puts the car around maybe 375-380whp, I've never had the car on a dyno and don't intend to.

Unfortunately the build thread is stopping here as there's something else in the works with a 1 of 1 car. The 8j TTRS is amazing that is unquestionably a classic in the making, and I will always remember it as the first true "dream car" I purchased. I will be back in another in the future.
