    Hey fellas,

Anyone have any luck getting a sticker in RI with tints, and if so, where at?!?

No one near me even wants to try to inspect it and tell me It’s a waste of money to even attempt it until the tint is removed.

    Anyway, here’s a snap of my girl, ‘09 3.0t a6,

Inspection procedures in RI have changed a lot since last year. They now take digital pictures of front and rear license plates, windows, and instrument clusters (mileage).
No license plate frames of any kind & no window tint on any window, unless it's a commercial truck. Commercial trucks are allowed tint from the rear of the driver back to & including the rear window.

I thought window tint was legal in RI as long as it let in 30% of light??

I was under the same impression but was told all non factory tint is no longer allowed, without written exemption from a doctor

    Do research.

    Rhode Island General Law 31-23.3-2

Quick google search yielded plenty or results and AP1is correct based on the law.

Read the actual law not what you heard. Stay legal and show this to the inspector, show that your within the law by having them test and showing a receipt of the tint install and what level of transparency is installed.

    Good luck.

After reading that law I feel as if I have 0 chance to pass inspection. Car was purchased with tint already installed so I don’t have receipts.

Looks like I’ll be having it removed

RI will only allow 70% VLT (Visible Light Transmission), as the darkest allowed on a passenger vehicle. Pickup trucks (with commercial plates) can have only windows behind the driver tinted as dark as you want...
To put that into perspective, if you've ever seen a chain smokers car windows that are all yellow & discolored, thats about 75% VLT.
Most cars sold in the USA have regular glass that is slightly tinted at around 80% VLT.
Unfortunately in RI, unless you have an undercover police car or a limo, it's gotta come off.
It's too bad though, to me most cars look better with tinted windows.
Incedentally, I was trying to guess where the pic of your car was taken...
Ocean Drive in Newport or the Narragansett wall near The Coast Guard House?

Ocean drive was correct haha, local to that area, and wishing there were more euro cruises in that area.

I did decided to call my doctor to have him fill out the request for tint exemption for RI. If he agrees, I will be allowed to go as dark as 30% all the way around, (which I will not be doing, 50% at most) all I know for sure is that this state has started an absolute dictatorship of passenger vehicles in the last year and it just is not right

Ha good luck my next mod was going to be tint as its not super expensive and I think it would look great on my car with the bo. I might still do it but decided to go with some suspension goodies next.

I'd give it a shot. Worst thing that happens is you have to peel the tint & have it put back on for $250.
I figured that was ocean drive. Was down there this past weekend.
It does suck that there aren't any euro meets or cruises in RI. Closest we have around here is the car show up at Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, Ma. Or if you get lucky a few Euro cars show up at New England Dragway...
