Differences between 2015/2016 S5

Shopping for a new daily, I assume the 2016 S5 has the new version of the 3.0T engine correct? Any other major changes? MMI version?

i believe the sound system is upgraded to the B&O as standard

A little more options. Like 20" wheels. My 2015, I believe didnt have a 20" wheel option

The new version of the engine (code CRE_) didn't come to North America in the S4 or S5, it was only for the A6 and other models that had the supercharged engine.

Correct. I have one of the last B8.5 S5’s sold and it’s a 2017 and everything on the car is the same as other year B8.5 S5s. As someone mentioned earlier there were some different options packages with the later years because they no longer sold them as Premium Plus and Prestige. I have every option available except the Active Dampening Suspension and not much has changed. As someone also mentioned you could get 20” inch wheels if you selected the Black Optics Package and then added the Black Optics Plus Package but all in its the same car.

At one point I had heard there were some slight differences with the grille on the 2016/17 vs the 13-15 B8.5. The differences supposedly was nothing you'd notice on the outside, and more-so related to how they mounted or the thickness of them. Is there actually any truth to that though?

It came up in conversation with a guy on Instagram a while back, and he was stating he couldn't put the aftermarket grille on his 2016.

I’ve had 4 different aftermarket grilles on the car with no issues and all the parts I buy are usually for a 2015 or 2016 unless I’m buying OEM parts from Audi because many aftermarket parts websites recognize 2017 as a B9. Never had an issue with any parts. Aftermarket or OEM.

So did yours come with adaptive headlights? Meaning it slightly moves side to side when you make a turn?
I know that was on the prestige trim.

For anyone interested in the 2016 (S6 style) 20" wheels, you can get a very good facsimile from Hartmann Wheels (though you may need r14 bolts for the 20"). They also offer a couple more color options.

Yes. I have Adaptive Headlights and other Prestige options. Only option I didn’t get was the dampening suspension because I went with KWs dampening coilovers.

And there were some actual mechanical differences in the car but they are minor. Most recent revisions of parts/numbers and updates most notably for this group the latest supercharger Intercoolers are more durable but essentially identical

These were the 20” OEM Black Optics Plus wheels. I believe they are called Audi Sport 7 Double Spoke....they’re my winters now!

Ah yes, hardly see those since not many 2017's are out there. I like them a lot although I like my 2016 Black Optics Plus wheels too.
