Used Zimmerman rotors in the past. They are good quality. Depending on what you want, pads would be a different choice. Ceramics are good for most folks. Leave no brake dust and are easily available. Different compound pads will provide a different feel but generally produce more dust.

I personally have bad experience with zimmerman rotors, and especially trw apds. That combo is plain awful.

IF you drive like a retired granny, youll be fine.

IF you drive any faster, these rotors: will warp because of shitty TRW pads which is the beiggest crap that exist.

They overheat in a matter of one proper braking, and

they dust incredibly lot. LIke my rims would be black in within a week.

right now, I have zimmerman again, but this time with Ekebono Euro pads...

    2 things:
-these are very quiet and they DO NOT dust
-they are very lazy when cold, to the point I started doubting I have some leak. THey need to be hot to brake good.
Their initial bite is very weak in everyday drive. Its about personal preference.

The Akebono Euro pads are a ceramic and shouldn’t dust anyway. I would agree that you should skip the TRW pads.

This setup of Zimmerman rotors and Akebono Euro ceramics is probably a good daily setup. I have also had good luck with stop tech pads.

I don’t really drive her too hard. She’s my daily.

I saw these on carparts. Power Stop any good? Haven’t really heard of them.

Only other option other than Zimmerman rotors would probably be Pagid or Brembo rotors. I’m just looking for the quietest set up. Hate squeaky brakes. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

I just did my fronts after sensor came on - coated Zimmermann rotors and Akebono pads. not as much initial grab as OEM especially when cold or wet but comes on fine. Not sure if overall distance ends up different or not. Hoping to cut down on dust on fronts. So far (limited driving with WAH due to Covid) so good.

    hey all,

I also am in the market to get some new brake pads and rotors, what can you guys suggest would be the closest to the OEM with out breaking the bank, I am willing to pay the higher cost if the material is worth it. Called my Audi dealer here in Canada, for my fronts they want over 700 for brakes and rotors and my rears over 500 and we all know dealers are unrealistic when it comes to pricing. I have no problem doing the install my self I have the gear, just do not want to be throwing away that kind of money when I can spend a fraction of that price.

    let me know your thoughts.

You really cant go wrong with the kit from FCP. They're hands down the best place to get parts for European cars.

I would love to get it off FCP but because I’m in Canada parts and shipping come out to more money than what I can get it for here.

I’ve seen some hate to the TRW pads, wondering what’s the deal as that is OEM for this car?

As a person that went through few sets of TRW pads.

They dust like insane. They overheat super fast.
I have at least 3 times more reserve in these Akebono pads before they overheat.

For reference, Akebono Euro pads that I have now, car wasn't washed for 10 days at least.

difference in brake dust is just not for comaprison. I mean, these DONT make brake dust lol

I appreciate your info on this. So far on the pad fronts are found at 250 and backs at 140 Canadian trying to find a cheaper place 390 on pads alone is a-little insane, rotors on top of that costing another 300 to 400 easily at this point could have a mechanic do the install vs my self.

if this is a street car, then rockauto! you should be in the 200-250 range for rotors and pads front and rear.

I'm loving how much cheaper brake components have gotten over the last 10-15 years.

May do brakes before I tune, as I do a lot of mountain pass driving, and my stock brakes aren't the happiest about it.. we'll see

Thanks estomax so far I see that germanoem.ca is the cheapest for my OEM set up of Zimmerman rotors and TRW pads for 383 plus shipping but still looking for the akebono pads cheaper

I would recommend germanparts.ca allways before Germanoem.

They actually have bunch of drop off locations so u don't pay for shipping.

And for a change, they pick up their phones and are very approachable and helpfull

But for Akebono, rockauto ROCKS :)

JUST CHECKED I paid, 180cad shipped to my house. Front and rear.

    Sswari,

Why the drilled rotors do you actually see or feel a difference in terms of performance? I was thinking Zimmerman rotors with akebono pads?

What do you suggest on rotors? I’m thinking Zimmerman?

Bear in mind, this was just the front, I have yet to do anything with the rear, as I am a bit concerned about some of the posts I have read about that job needing special tools on the 06 A6 model
I did not get slotted or drilled. From what I read, and that was quite a bit, slotted and drilled did little if anything for breaking and or cooling. This is a very heated topic, but when you look closer, it does seem that many of the true race cars are still running solid disks, it just did not make sense to spend the extra money. Another thought was, if solid is good enough from the factory, it should be good enough after the fact.

This setup seems to be very much like what was on there, I kind of doubt it was factory, but very well could have been Audi parts. I have a couple of contracts that are closing soon, and will probable do the rear wheels in the next few weeks with this setup.

The biggest draw of course is the lack of dust. The Akebono pads are great. They seem to be stopping the car when I need them too. I don't always drive spirited, but when I do they do their job.

    Hello all,

About time for a brake job, have decided on Zimmerman and Akebono but wondering if the brake dust would show up on black rims? Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Hey peoples,

Need some insights here. As about to do my break job. For my 2008 Audi A6 is there no brake hardware for the front? I know the backs have metal sims to quiet them from squealing but all trw and akebono front brake sets don’t seem to have these shims are they not needed?
