    S8 Considerations

Hey guys, first time hopping into the A/S8 forums (mostly active in the A4, Q5 forums), but have a friend looking to get into a D2 S8 and was looking to get some help from you guys here.

He's currently looking at this ride:
    https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/WAUGU54D71N011138

Gotten the price down to about 13K. Just wondering if this is a fair price for a clean S8? Of course it is all going to depend on the maintenance record and cleanliness, but just wondering what the market is for a pristine S8?

Would appreciate any input you guys have and also if there are any important considerations or flags to look out for.

    Thanks!

For that kind of money, why not do a D3 version? The D2 are amazing and very rare to find lightly used ones today with low miles so that’s why this dealer is asking a high price that you could get an awesome 08-09 D3 version with way more power and features.

I’m not too well versed on the D2 though. If you want tons of responses in a super active community, search for the Audi A8/S8 Owners group on Facebook.

Nice, low mileage D2s can be expensive. That one doesn't seem like a screaming deal, but also doesn't seem terribly out of line for a nice car. Sad to see that it has the comfort seats rather than the sport seats. The sport seats are awesome. Looking at the ad, it looks like Bennett Motor Werks in Torrington, CT serviced the car for the last 12 years. May be worth giving them a call and asking about it or even taking the car to them for an inspection.

Bring a Trailer has sold 13 D2 S8s over the last 4 years, FYI. https://bringatrailer.com/audi/s8/

D2 S8s are some of the best Audi cars out there. I had a 2002 in late 2003 Blk/Blk alcantara recaro interior. Easily outrun most cars at that time. No issues at all other than regular maintenance. Drive it 50K miles in 2 years. Still miss it. Did see it couple of years back. D3 V10 is a super nice car, but with it comes very high maint. costs and not everyone is able to work on them. I feel the 4.2l was one of the best engines made. I may still go back to a D2 if i can find a nice one.
