This is ridiculous and I cant be the only one it is happening to. There was a class action lawsuit and alot of ppl got theirs fixed but it didnt last very long. I bought this car 2 months ago and it uses a quart of oil in under 500 miles.
We should start another lawsuit because this is bs....

I called Audi of America and 3 dealers. None of them are willing to help at all.

It was more an FYI for what's going on with your engine, I guess you can approach Audi to see if they would cover any of it as a good will gesture but the car is long out of warranty and probably not serviced by Audi so it would be a long shot.

Yea this is a life lesson for you and anyone reading all your post.

Before shelling out 10 grand for a nine or ten year old beautiful automobile with 80,000 on the clock, one should ready do some homework. You have to find out all the strengths and weaknesses, the price of parts, are you going to be able to perform the labor or how much labor is going to cost, ect ect.

The oil consumption issue you are experiencing has been so well documented, for years, ........ well, it is just so easy to locate with only a half hearted search.

If you had just taken the time and researched, your model year A5, prior to purchasing, you could have gotten a better deal or just past on the car.

Audi (VAG) addressed this issue in the TSB and either fixed the issue or extended the warranty. I would think maybe if the issue was corrected in the recent past, under the TSB, maybe one could argue faulty work. However if the repair was never performed, well this is a shame on you thing.

As for the black smoke issue after topping the tank off, well take some time and educate yourself, printed right on the fuel cap it states, " DO NOT TOP OFF TANK " . Sorry, I know, not what you wanted to.... hear.... read... this one is on you too.

yeah it's sad but true, before buying my S5, I was really apprehensive before doing it, I did a ton of research, and had the luxury of my nephew being friends with a former Audi tech, I picked his brain, and was satisfied with his answers.

Because I think a lot of people are getting tired of you whining constantly that it's Audi's fault you make bad decisions. You wanted to be baller on a budget and bought a used and abused A5 for $10k with no warranty, no PPI and no research. And now it's, "the car is crap, audi is crap, we should all sue".

I can understand the OP being frustrated and disappointed in his purchase but I don't think dishing out hurt is going to help.

If I was the OP I would:
    1. Speak (calmly) to Audi to see if there's anything they could do to ease the cost of a repair.
    2. Speak to a workshop capable of stripping, cleaning and rebuilding the current engine
    3. Look for a donor engine from a breakers yard and sell the car as soon as it's fitted before that engine fails
    4. Torch it and claim on the insurance as sanitised due to suspect Covid infected.

It's ok, im used to trolls on the internet.
One thing I have learned about coming to this Audi forums is that most Audi owners have sticks up their asses. Their stuff is better than your stuff and if you cant afford a dealership bill then you shouldn't be here. Im glad I dont live acting like that.

People should be on forums to help, not bash each other. It's ok, dont defend yourselves because its easy to see who you are and what you are.

First it is a forum to ask questions about issues... Second, it is Audi's fault that this issue exists and there was already a lawsuit that they lost over it. I am not the only one with the left over cars that weren't fixed. Third, didn't know these cars make us owners a baller... The car is in mint condition, the engine bay was spotless and the car showed zero signs on abuse...

Audi should have recalled all the affected cars and fixed them...period.

Honda has the same problem in the new civics and pulled cars off the lots to fix them.

They only did something after a....lawsuit.
I had a CPO A5 and it was fixed under warranty. If I didn’t have that year of warranty left god knows what would have happened...I was working part time in school and I would’ve have to drain my savings to get a rebuild.

I ditched that shitty 2.0T motor ASAP after I learned about the turbo and timing chain issues.

I got into my current 4.2 S5 after only a year and half with the A5. Stuff breaks on the 4.2, but I’ve been able to DIY everything except carbon cleaning, and I confidently know that the motor and it’s internal components are solid.

    Lol wrong.

The 4.2 found in the B8 S5 doesn’t have the issue those old 4.2s had.

They have completely different timing chain guides. I follow multiple users on social media with B8 S5s over the 100k mileage mark and they have no issue with the timing chain components.

What will fail is stuff like fuel pumps, water pump, etc.

That thing gives me a headache just looking at it. How can anything get that complicated?? For crap sake, it's just an internal combustion engine.....

    He’s not wrong.
Most people don’t expect a car from a highly praised brand to have a fatal flaw completely ignored.

Here are some examples of Audi just half heartedly throwing out a TSB and telling everyone out of warranty to go get fucked:
-B8 2.0T piston rings, turbos, and tensioners
    -4.0T turbos are blowing up
-Various S-tronic transmissions have gear position sensor failures and mechatronics failures.

Audi KNOWS about issues like this, but will never step up and take care of the owners.

When it comes to that aspect....Audi is crap

I love the brand and the cars still, but issues like these stopped me from purchasing a 2016 S6...because their turbos blow up stock as low as 30k miles

I’ll be sticking with the smaller engines that are easier to work on.

While I get where you're coming from, it's all in vain. The class action lawsuit came and went and while you have stated valid points, it's too late to get anything out of it. The lawsuit extended the warranty period up to 8 years from the car's date of manufacturer (which I'm sure you've already researched) and that's where they drew the line. My story:I bought my 2011 A4 with 66k miles last year from an AutoNation dealer and knowing full well that this car was a ticking time bomb, I called Audi of America to see if they would fix under warranty. They refused as I was just 45 freaking days over the warranty! I couldn't believe it. So I read the AutoNation 3 month/4k miles warranty i had, saw that it ran concurrent with manufacturers warranty, and took it to my local Audi dealer and had a talk with the service manager. He was very understanding and so down to earth, he decided to take my car in and fix it under warranty by using the AutoNation warranty which covered a new turbo, pistons and rings, pcv valve, hpfp. He knew his dealer was getting paid so he didn't mind. I took advantage and paid out of pocket for new tensioner and chain while the engine was being rebuilt for peace of mind. I lucked out on that one for sure.

While I knew my car only had 66k miles, I knew it would at least need a tensioner and chain replacement. What i didn't know is that it burned a quart in less than a week. Luckily that 3 month warranty along with that down ass audi service manager hooked me up when AOA didn't give a rate ass. AoA isn't gonna start a new class action lawsuit because of unfortunate others like yourself. Nobody is trolling, just being damn honest, regardless if it hurts man. Sorry to hear, if I were you I'd look at my options to resell the car if you don't want to deal with it as it can be very expensive without those repairs being covered under warranty. GLWE.

I understand im screwed... Its just alot of us are screwed that didnt know about this issue. I can put new pistons/rings in and the gasket sets and everything for under $1000 doing it myself. So thats probably what will end up happening. I just bought a leakdown tester to check the cylinders. Got the new updated PCV also.
I cant sell this car to someone else knowing whats wrong with it.

I feel ya. Remember that just by replacing your pistons and rings isn't going to necessarily fix your oil consumption issue. It just improves it. I've had to replace my hpfp a second time after the dealer replaced it under warranty last year. I also replaced all coil packs, did a carbon cleaning , and all fuel injectors and plugs. The way my brother put it : " these cars are a money pit" (he owned 2 A4 B8s , one of which had stage 2 done under warranty) he sold the audi after he replaced the tensioner and says he'll never drive audi again in his life. Now he's a die hard Infiniti guy lol keeps telling me if the car ever gives me another hefty bill issue, to get rid of it. I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't, but you never know with these cars, and I baby it like my 7 year old daughter. Lol
