2011 A5 2.0T Quatro, will a faster engine drop right in?

My car is dealing with the oil consumption issue and black smoke out of the tail pipe...

I dont know much about Audi's, VW's... is there any more powerful engines that would just bolt right up? I mean might as well explore all my options before deciding to just change the pistons and rings.

2011 A5 got the ZF 8 speed trans, I wonder if the 3.0T supercharged V6 would line up and work since this combo was used in a lot of Audi models like the C7 A6,A7, the SQ5, and others

No it's not that easy. Yes the supercharged v6 physically fits and will bolt right up but in addition to needing the transmission, differential, and all other drivetrain components from a donor S5, you also would need almost every computer module from the same donor S5 to swap into your A5. It's a large undertaking, people have done the 3.0T conversion to A4 Avants, you can research some of those threads and see all that's involved. Essentially though, you'd need to buy a wrecked S5 to donate its parts and your car would be out of commission for a long time.

If your motor really is trashed, I would recommend getting a low mileage 2013-2016 2.0T and put a K04 turbo on it. That will get you a properly quick car and be a much more manageable undertaking.

I am not sure if my engine is trashed yet, its blowing black and sometimes gray smoke out of the tail pipe every time I take off. This happened after I over filled it with gas. Not sure if I need one of those new canisters or not. Stupid German cars... Also it uses a quart of oil every 400 miles or so.... Ive only owned it 2 months and starting to hate it already.

I'm almost certain it's your piston rings that are toast, it's a well know issue on that engine and was a free recall to replace the rings.

It would be much cheaper to have your engine stripped down, new rings and a clean up of the head (and a bigger turbo if you want some more power) than it would navigating your way through a transplant from a donor car.
Get a new clutch in it while the engine is out and you will have good trouble free fun for some time.

Well black smoke is gas, I am having a hard time understanding why people say its from the oil consumption issue. Its a weird coincidence it started happening the day I over filled it with gas? It happen all at once the smoke wasnt gradual. It went from one day no smoking to smoking every time I took off.

You have around 5 threads currently running on here all related to maintenance on your engine, one of those is oil consumption, one is smoke one is loss of performance.
Black smoke can be oil, depends how much oil is burning.
You did a science experiment and ran sea foam when CRC valve cleaner was still active, is that a similar time to the fuel incident and smoke?

Atleast Im making the forum active lol.
No that was like a month and a half ago, the black smoke started immediately after over filling it with gas. I ordered a evap charcoal canister to replace mine used it was only $45.
I also just ordered the new updated PCV valve.

I only noticed the oil consumption issue because the oil light came on and I only recently changed the oil and was like WTF...

In addition to what 19birel said, I mean yes you're right, but no shit you're gonna need a new ecu and tcu unless you do a manual swap also.
Those are small things to consider compared to doing an engine swap.

Would need the ECU also, wonder what other issues that would cause.

My personal opinion is: With what you're going to spend in parts and labor for this endeavor, just go ahead and do the minimal amount to get your current car serviceable and trade it in for the car you're trying to turn your car into.

I myself have a personal goal to eventually swap a 4.0T into my car. But creating a largely unique combo like that that doesn't exist "in the wild" is different from you jury-rigging your car to match a car that already is pre-assembled for you in that exact config.

That is, if you're continuing with the B8.5 3.0T swap. If you want to go even more unique with your engine choices, then more power to you.

Some people just say put new rings in it, but the problem would come back eventually. If I go with rings and pistons then I read that you also need the connecting rods because the wrist pin is bigger. Thats where things get expensive. While its apart might as well do the timing chain work also.

You are correct. Just replacing the rings won't cure the design flaw. Somewhere in one of my responses I linked to updated pistons that worked with the original smaller 21mm wrist pins and don't require the rod replacement. If you get genuine Audi upgraded pistons you will also need the rods with the larger wrist pins.
