Safety System Malfunction and Traffic Jam Assist (active Lane assist)

I have the RS4 Style grill installed and one of the errors that popped up recently was Safety System Malfunction and Traffic Jam Assist (and tied in with it was active lane assist). These all failed so I brought it to the dealer and they said it's because I installed an aftermarket grill and that when the bumper was put on and taken off, the sensors weren't calibrated. I had the grill put in May 2018 and the first time these problems popped up was in Sept 2019 or so. Is the calibration a thing that's required or are they pulling my leg? Also they said it wouldn't be covered under warranty...

Not exactly the same, but I brushed the garage opening with my wife’s car about a year ago. A small scuff that buffed out, no other visible damage, fast forward nine months and had all the errors you mentioned. Apparently I had bent a bracket underneath when I hit the garage.

Like you, the errors didn’t show up for a long period of time. Had to have them replace the bracket, and then do the calibration. I believe there is a way to read what the sensors are reading, not sure how intuitive it would be to adjust at home? In my case, wasn’t willing to mess with it so I just had them recalibrate it at the dealer.

how much did they charge you to recalibrate? Which bracket did you bend?

Bent the one for one of the radar sensors (where the fog lights would be). They gave me the old one, it was just the slightest bend, so it doesn’t take much to throw off the calibration.

I think it was $600 for the replacement of the bracket (including front bumper removal) and $600 for the calibration.
