    Steering wheel re-wrap

With the alcantara steering wheel I did not expect much in terms of durability, at almost 20k miles the wheel is beginning to really deteriorate, leaving black fuzz all over my hands after spirited driving. Has anyone had their wheel re-wraped in alcantara or leather? also has anyone had carbon added to it for the visual aspect? Looking for recommendations to get this done.

To be honest I'd go perforated leather all around. For all those who still have the alcantara, clean frequent with the audi cleaner, rub with a microfiber cloth, fluff with a tooth brush and let it dry over night.

Sounds like you grip the wheel pretty hard. My car has over 30k and I haven’t experienced anything like that. Do you keep it clean? Dirt getting ground into it over time will damage the fibers, just like clothes or rope.

I kept up with maintenance using sonax alcantara cleaner its just reach the point where the material has really begun to break down and shed. I could try one of the rs5 wheels with all leather but I would rather re-wrap as I assume it would be much cheaper.

Never been a fan of sonax. I actually think it makes matters worse.

Dr. Beasleys makes great products including a microsuede cleaner and protector that works well on Alcantara. I don’t like the sonax Alcantara cleaner but I do use the sonax brush.

I think it’s too aggressive and I don’t like the smell.

That's my first mod when I get an RS3 haha. Eyeing a leather steering wheel off of Euro Price. I like the way Alcantara looks. But I prefer traditional leather steering wheel.

I've used Sonax on numerous alcantara surfaces and the alcantara has never felt as soft after cleaning despite applying various methods of cleaning, drying, buffing and brushing. I think a slightly damp terry cloth and alcantara brush for cleaning and maintenance is the best approach. Skip the chemicals. YMMV.

Just buy a new wheel. Best option.

dallas custom steering wheels. They are awesome (imo). they wrapped my rs6 wheel for my b7 avant in alcantara and did my Rs3 in full alcantara, thickest padding and navy blue 12'oclock stripe. I love it..

Obviously they do full leather which sounds like what you want
