    2013 S7 Engine Failure

Evening guys, I wanted to Reach out to all the knowledge and the forum. They have a 2013 at seven with 42,000 miles on it. Three weeks ago about 80 days after buying it, driving about 85 miles an hour in the fast lane with my son, my car just stalled. Needless to say I was a little worried, manage to coast it over into the breakdown lane and put it in the park. Car was getting full battery power Just wasn’t turning over. Kept pushing the start stop button and nothing. Had the car towed hooked it up and it showed a bad starter fault, nothing else was listed. Check engine light came on however but that was it. Had the car towed to the dealer where I bought it, thinking it was gonna be a starter. They did as well as they pull the codes and only the starter was showing a code. They ordered the starter, put it in, and then all hell broke loose on the codes. They drop the oil pan metal shavings all in the oil pan. Motor was seized. Needless to say this was a little distressful. The great news for me was, it 10 days before the 90 day warranty ended from the dealer. They have been great in responsiveness and have been good with communication. No complaints whatsoever. The one question I have for you guys is, they are putting in a new motor with new turbos. This motor has a little less mileage than mine does around 35,000. I’m having them do the PCV valve recall at the same time and having the new oil strainers for the turbos put in Because we’re right there and we might as well do it at that time. Is there anything else you think I should be looking to do or try to look out for in the motor swap? I tried to negotiate doing the RS7 turbos but they decided they didn’t wanna do that. They were only going to change it back to the way it was. Thanks for reading this and I look forward to any comments you might have.

Sounds like an unfortunate situation, but good that it happened within the warranty period and great that you have a supportive dealer.

Out of interest, is it an Audi dealer?

In terms of other things to check for, definitely worth checking the condition of the engine mounts while they are there.

    What was the failure?

Was it turbos/screen? Causing the turbos to turn into shrapnel, hence the metal in the pan.

It wouldnt be the first time I've read on here that turbos caused total engine failure for similar reasons.

Good call. I’ll have them look at that as well. No it wasn’t an Audi dealer, but they have been top notch to deal with.

I don’t know what the failure was. I am having new screens put in since they’re there anyway, thinking about downpipes too if I can get them done.

It'd be good to know what caused the failure

Catastrophic engine failure is usually quite rare...

Is there a thread in here that lists the part needed to do the PVC Valve and the oil screens? I’d like to just get all the parts from Audi and bring them to the dealer doing my engine to install.5

Possibly a turbo turbine went down the intake.
Sell me your bad engine I’ll buy it!

This is a great write up on how to replace the PCV and all parts needed. It's what I used to replace mine a couple months ago.

Wish I could. I’m sure the dealer is keeping it for their insurance company.

Quick question guys, should I be worried about anything else? Transmission issues because of the seizure?

The transmissions are usually pretty good. But they do have a few common issues, first is the megatronics circuit board usually melt, they sell a repair kit it’s about $600,
Then depending on how you drive your car and the mileage, your clutches may go out, not too too expensive a couple grand,
The actual megatronics has went bad on a few cars, it’s like $4000 🤦🏼*♂️ but unlikely.

Get the fluid serviced in it and you should be ok!
