    1.8T A4 custom exhaust cost?

    Hey Audizine,

I've been wanting to get a custom 2.5" exhaust made to match my 2.5" TT DP and to get a deep exhaust note that the factory system doesn't give me, I'd just want some resonator mid-pipes to avoid droning but, a straight pipe the rest of the way back. I asked a reputable exhaust shop for a quote on an aluminized DP-back system with magnaflow resonators and they said it would be $850 Canadian rupees (about $600 USD) installed. Everywhere I search shows people paying less for their custom exhaust set-ups across different cars, so I'm not sure if this is a fair price. I also asked them to get an 02 bung welded into my DP so I can refit my 2nd 02 and I hope they're including that in the $850 price tag.

Either way if anyone who has experience with getting a custom exhaust done could chime in here, that'd be appreciated.

Here's the shops website if you want to check them out or see their work: https://www.masterperformanceplus.com/

    Thanks

So if I understand correctly they quoted $850 CAD for a custom 2.5" exhaust system from the downpipe back? That seems pretty reasonable considering most off the shelf exhaust systems that go from the downpipe back are close to if not over 1k. To be fair I have not had a custom exhaust made for my car so I don't have context but that's my $0.02

On a side note, where did you source your TT downpipe? The flex pipe on mine is going bad so I'm considering getting a test pipe and new downpipe. Most US retailers have steep shipping prices to Canada for stuff as big as exhausts...

    1.8T A4 custom exhaust cost?

Just to give you an example of the cost of quality exhaust work... I had a knock off borla exhaust which one muffler started to rattle really bad. So I had a shop chop the rear mufflers off and tig weld in a step up from 2 in to 2.5 and straight pipes back to the bumper. This cost me 300. 100 for materials and 200 for labor. Mind you this took at least 5 hours to make sure it was perfect straight and looked good.

    Here are the results.

I talked more with the shop and they said the 02 bung I need welded in is included with the $850 quote, so based off that and that most exhaust systems do indeed go for over $1k; I'll go for it. Yes that's from the downpipe-back, so starting from under the car just behind the front wheels.

The TechTronics DP is from ECSTuning, my flex was also going bad and the stock DP is a big restriction since the diameter goes down to 1.75" IIRC. I noticed a good lift in power when I put it in together with my testpipe so I highly recommend it. The AT, 5spd MT, and 6spd MT are different and you can get one that tapers to 2.25" for the stock system or 2.5" all the way through to match a 2.5" exhaust, so make sure you get the right one.

Here's the link to the AT 2.5" to 2.25" (one I got): https://www.ecstuning.com/b-techtoni...e/251124r~ttt/

The set-up sounds great , was worried the car would be overly loud with just resonators but, that sounds tolerable to me. Also considering the price you paid, $850 sounds very reasonable. Looks like I'm pulling the trigger on the DP-back system then.

BTW how is it on the highway? My 5spd TIP ends up at 2500-2800 rpm at highway speeds so that would be my only concern with long trips.

It’s hardly noticeable while cruising at just about any speed. Even in 5th if you dog it you just gets a nice subtle rumble. It’s only loud under WOT and even that isn’t deafening. IMO it’s just the right sound. It does have a bit of a tube sound (think srt4 ) but I think that’s cause the majority of the pipes are 2 in if it was bigger it wouldn’t have that sound.

Good to know! This is my daily so having a good balance between a nice rumble and not being obnoxious is important. Since my exhaust is gonna be 2.5" all the way it'll be slightly louder unfortunately but, I think it will also deliver a deeper tone than if it was smaller. I will upload a before and after video on this thread early next month when I get the exhaust done. Can't wait to hear some crackles and pops

There is quite a lot of heat shielding around the exhaust and sound dampening insulation inside the cabin of these cars so it should not be hard to find a nice balance of a good exhaust note outside the car while having a relatively liveable cabin noise.

I got some peel and seal to do this to my trunk with, but I haven’t put it in yet. I have low expectations but with all this extra time why not, right?

That's true, these cars are really well insulated with all the sound deadening and shielding.

I assume putting some in the spare wheel well would make a good difference, with all the time and ability to remove it; I say go for it. Might be interested in going this route if need be.

I think I spent somewhere around 900 to a 1000 for my custom exhaust. I bought all the pipes and too it to the shop and had them cut and weld it. Grant it it’s 3” stainless with v bands and two magna flow mufflers. Love the sound and people comment on how it sounds all the time.
What ever makes sense go with the opposite and you got it
