    Roof carrier

Anyone know where to get a better deal than the ridiculous asking price from audi parts for the roof carrier (360L or 405L)? Any other reccs for a good cargo carrier?

Also, what other parts is this referring to? - "For customers with panoramic sunroofs, please consult your dealer for additional required hardware."

Not sure what Audi asks for theirs, but I priced out a Thule bike carrier (2 bikes) and it was a little over $1100. The bars and roof connectors were $450 without all the bike parts.

I got the Audi OEM rack from Audi Parts Nationwide for a pretty decent discount. Pretty much everything they sell is discounted from MSRP. $374 for towers and crossbars is actually a pretty good price for a roof rack. Thule and Yakima systems will be a lot more expensive. However, Neither of them offer a roof rack that will fit the RS5. The OEM option was all I could find.

By way of comparison, the Thule roof rack (towers & crossbars) for my '13 allroad with factory rails runs $440. Attachments are extra. I have the Thule Upride for my bikes. Incidentally, the Upride can be used on the OEM roof rack.

Thule definitely does for the Sportback. Coupe may be different and when I was researching last year, I do remember something saying no roof rack compatibility for my car. Turns out, all of the same connecting points are there whether A5, S5, RS5 SB. Can't use the sunroof though.

Interesting. I wasn't able to find anything to fit the RS5 coupe other than OEM. I think, but can't confirm, that the OEM rack is made by Thule. I could be, and likely am, wrong in that though.

BTW, it was suggested to me in another thread on this topic that I put some something between the post attachment and the car to protect the paint from scratching. I have some aircraft grade surface guard tape I got through Amazon I plan to use for this purpose (haven't installed the rack yet). I bought the stuff for use on my road bicycle to protect the paint from rock chips and mounting of peripherals. It goes on and is nearly invisible provided you don't leave finger prints on the adhesive side.

So how is OEM? I'm leaning towards that now. It seems like if I go with Thule I need to buy so many extra parts, vs the Audi original has all the parts I need?

I have a Thule that I like but can’t use sun roof.
When installing make sure the feet slide into slot and backward.
Also used 3m bra material under the feet.

Here's a shot from last week with the OEM roof rack and a Thule bike carrier...mt. bike was extra...

I did run into an issue with the rubber inset that goes inside the groove in the crossbar coming out at free way speeds twice over a two hour trip. Wind appears to get under the rubber and pull it out. Was flapping all over the place. Trying to figure out how to remedy and prevent recurrence...
