B8.5 Powersteering failure, replace module only.

My power steering failed on my 2015 a4 and i was wondering if I could replace only the electric module instead of the whole rack. The electronics died in the cold but the rack itself is in good shape, so i was wondering if i could just buy this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A4-A5-...rEAbtM8TfwtQo8 and replace that single part. I know The module can be taken out separately because i've done it i'm just not sure how that would impact the computers.

Yup this the latest in a list of many potential joy killing experiences on this platform.
The normaly solid PS system enjoyed for years in many many cars, has been replaced with an unreliable Uber expensive component in the 8.5.
And yes your 14 is susceptible.

Oh boy thats dramatic. Had this style rack in numerous vehicles of ours now as far back as my 07 A3 (put 220km on that one) with no issues.

By that logic we should never advance automotibe technology becuase it already works fine lol

Thats not what im saying , im saying to be on the front end of the technology has its risks , and very expensive ones... at 4K for a new rack that you didnt need the day before is a possible reality for any who drive this car, look back through the threads, this issue is on the rise.,
If the company is living up to its name i get that but if it wants to take steps forward like this i think they should support the customer with their experimenting, and offer rebuilds or replacement more reasonably than 4 Grand.

Lol completely fair. Tbh I was being a bit of a smart ass.

Would make much more sense to just replace the module.

A new rack from audi is $1,900. Where are you seeing 4,000?
I think audi did pretty well with the b8.5. We really don't see a lot of issues with them.
I work for a certain asian manufacturer that will not be named, you want to see steering issues? I couldn't even tell you how many eps columns I've changed. I just put a rack in one of our large luxury sedan models for a cool $5500. Owner hit road debris and the rack, being the lowest point of the car, got damaged and kept sticking at 1/4 turn. We keep two in stock this is such a common occurrence...

The more people who report to NHTSA the better chance we have of relief (still small tho)
