    2015 S3 - CEL on, Code P2024

Hey everyone. Ran my gas tank until 15 miles to E yesterday and then filled it up all the way. I never fill it past the first click and when I started the car, the CEL popped on. Tried unscrewing the gas cap and putting it back to see if it would fix, but no luck. Been driving it around and have cleared it but it just comes back on. Car is a APR Stage 2 and is serviced regularly. Anyone have any similar experiences?

I noticed if the gas tank gets filled too high...I get this code.

I change the evap purge valve, and checked all the lines...

Also changed the seal on the gas cap

So far...it looks to be the over filling of the gas tank..

I'll burn through some gas today and see if it goes away. Hasnt gone down a notch yet. Weird thing is that I stopped filling it when the pump clicked as it should.

Gas guage went down a dash, CEL is still on. I reset the codes and after the 2nd startup, the CEL was back on.Screenshot_20200404-132345_Carista.jpeg

How does the seal on the gas cap look?

Also if you DIY...the Evap purge valv can be checked with VCDS.

The over filled gas tank theory...possibly allows fuel to get inside the evap components near the tank. So it takes a couple days to clear the fuel from the evap system...depending on which version of evap your Audi has....

UPDATE: Have since filled up the tank again, only until it clicks once. Cleared the codes and restarted the car twice, the CEL is still on.

Could be bunged up charcoal canister....or maybe bad wires.

Need to research the EVAP system and investigate.

Heard about a wiring harness that's in a bad spot next to the gas tank that could have been damaged by rubbing together. Gonna check it out soon

UPDATE. Got underneath the car and found the Evap Temp Circuit. Just as I suspected, wires were rubbing against a line and went through the plastic on some of them. Audi needs to have a service bulletin to fix this, such a dumb thing. Does anybody know a part number for the red wiring harness in this picture?20200412_173049.jpeg20200412_171450.jpeg

Passenger side of the vehicle, in front of the rear wheel next to the gas tank! You'll see the red harness and keep following it and you'll find it. Picture attached with the exact location circled! I can also post a video if I figure out how to20200413_152447.jpeg

A better view of the unit and connector. You can see the tube which probably disengaged from its clip falling down to rub against the wires20200413_212224.jpeg

If the wires are not worn thru...get some liquid electric tape. Clean then then apply liquid. Reposition line rubbing on them...

Unfortunately I believe the wires are worn thru and that's what is throwing up the CEL

Looking at the pic...they dont appear worn thru...
It looks like when they get wet...short between the four...the blueish color on the red wire...for the oxidizing copper...curious if it blew a fuse?

I'll attempt that repair today or on my day off tomorrow then. Any insight on which fuse it may be?

Repaired the wire. First pic was during the cleaning. Dabbed some liquid electrical tape on and let it dry. Checked the fuse and it looked like this. Unfortunately after clearing the CEL it came back on.20200507_181229.jpeg20200507_191815.jpeg

    dam it...

Can you pull the connector off the control unit(1)? See if its got corroded contacts inside and on the unit?

Also it looks like there is tape on the wires near the connector? Previous repair by dealership?

I tried to remove it but it's a super tight space and was afraid of not being able to put it back in. Not sure but it's looking like I'm gonna buy a new connector end and have the wires connected together instead of getting a whole new harness unless I can get Audi to cover it. Seems like something that should be recalled and/or have a service bulletin out for. Snapchat-423228082.jpeg

P02024 code might also be a generic evap system DTC which might clear iself by the periodic auto tank/charcoal filter purge. See Ross-Tech.

Finally got the CEL to turn off. Turned out that the red wire wasn't only worn thru , while pulling on the plug the red wire snapped so I redid the wiring and voila gone !
