    Summer Tires Pilot Sport 4S

Hello fellas, summer is around the corner and I was thinking of replacing my all seasons with the Michelin PS4S.

Has anyone tried them and can comment on performance and comfort?

Get them, they're great! Just picked up a pair. Had the Falken Azenis before, great tires also. I feel the Michelin are a little better or cornering and stability.

They're fantastic tires, just quite expensive. I ran them (or the predecessor PSS) on every car that I owned, but eventually realized that I was paying a premium to use about 20% of their potential in day-to-day driving. I went with some much cheaper Falkens when I switched wheels on my S5, which aren't quite as good as the P4S but were literally half the price.

I absolutely love them. They aren't cheap but I have no desire to switch brands after running so many Michelin tires. Started with PSS, tried AS3+'s on my old Q60 which were also great and now run the PS4S on the S4. Couldn't be happier

I feel the same way so I just pulled the trigger on them. They have a super cool velvet style logo on the sidewall.. love the attention to detail.

Not to talk smack but I'm blown away that Audi chose to run Falken summers on some models... they should have came with these or a similar brand from the factory IMO.

I agree with ya there. In all honesty though, I drove 10 miles on them before I swapped to my winter wheels and tires then sold the stockers so I wouldn't know anything about them lol

They're good tires but in my opinion they're overhyped and overpriced. You'll get 95% of the performance out of an indy 500 or a hankook v12 evo for half the cost and they won't be worn out in 20k miles

I've had them on my last two S4s. Not sure if I'm more impressed with their road performance or tread life, with both being excellent. Do it!

Yup, it's the best tire ever, but I see this one again developing into the Falken comparison thread. Falkens are 90% as good based on what I read, but cost almost half as much as PS4S, and are better in the wet. There are countless reviews online comparing those against each other with some really useful stats. If you can afford the Michelins, you will not be disappointed.

I also run these on my S5 but on my other cars I run Continental ExtremeContact Sport - also a fantastic tire I highly recommend.

It's absolutely worth the price of admission. Stellar grip, phenomenal ride quality, quiet and tremendous in the wet.

Good to know i'm getting them on next week. I have the AS3 + and there quite noisy on the highway but I improved the ride by lower tire pressure which helped. Amazing grip in any situation though

The #1 tire we recommend at our shop, you will not be disappointed in the slightest. If you are up for a drive, feel free to shoot me a PM and I would be happy to get you setup with a mount and balance!

Have the PS4S on both our S4 and TTS. Had PSS (predecessor) on our earlier TT and B8S4. Have also had most versions of pirelli p zero family, continental (both extreme contact and contisportcontact) as well as the Audi OEM Hankooks that were not that great.

While the Michelin’s are more expensive, they are worth the premium. However, if you average the cost per a mile, considering they have proven to wear extremely well for a UHP tire, and come with a prorate replacement warranty, I’d suggest they really don’t cost that much more than most of the comparable competition (that don’t come with a 30k treadwear warr).

I’d also argue that saving $25-45 per a tire when you have spent as much as you did on these higher performance versions doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. You already spent a good 10k plus for the higher performance car version. Tires are too damn important to not do the same.

That being the case, I would be interested to see how the Falkens compare not having any first hand experience.

My contisportcontact 6 OEM tires were shot at 10k miles, and were not tracked. While they are known to wear very quickly, I’d replace them at least 2 times over the course of 1 set of PS4S.

One of the things I love most about Michelin is their reputation and R&D, as well as production quality. I’ve never had one of these road force in double digits, never had balancing issues, etc.

Michelin makes the best street tires. nothing else compares for grip/noise/longevity.

I’ve had 2 pair of the PS4S on my B9 S4 so far... worth every penny IMO... best tire I’ve ever ridden on... yes they’re more expensive but the grip is unbelievable... off the line, in the corner, you can push the car more to it’s limit with this tire... and I’ve had Bridgestone and Conti’s on my previous cars which were all heavily modded... not even close... you won’t be disappointed... have fun!

I had the CSC6 before the PS4S. In terms of overall grip, it’s pretty darn close in the dry. Wet I think PS4S is better. CSC6 is a great tire with horrendous wear.

PS4S destroys the CSC6 over harsh impacts. With the CSC6 I rarely used dynamic suspension outside smooth interstates. Now I can ride streets and potholes without going auto or comfort mode no problem.

I've been playing around with mine. Stock PSI for normal load was a little too soft on the front end for me, door jamb sticker (full load) was a little too harsh. I go with 42F/38R and I am happy - good mix between compliance and handling.

Keep in mind that the door jamb sticker is over-inflated if its just you driving around: those figures are calculated for full load (5 people plus luggage). Your manual has a better chart for normal load.

if you haven't bought yours yet go for 255/35. Fits stock wheel widths and ps4s is a very narrow tire, I regret my 245/35's which are great but just very narrow.

I had the AS3+ and hated them. They were loud, not very comfortable, didn’t do well in the snow or dry. So I switched to a winter tire after many close calls in light snow. I’m hoping these will make me a Michelin fan again because I plan on running these in the summer. How do you like them compared to the as3+?

So if you let a little pressure out of the AS3 seriously not bad. These though are just about performance and I think you’d be happy with them.
From my experience tire pressure does ALOT.

But ya I felt the same way you did ... take my work you’ll love it

I have the A/S 3+'s on my g37 (RWD) and they did just fine in the snow. Especially light snow. Gotta dial in the PSI, it does play a large role especially in the snow. Also what wheel width and diameter? wider doesnt do as well in the snow

I was running 38 in the front and rear on the AS3+. Just wasn’t a fan. When the snow hit it wasn’t good at all. I’ve always been a Michelin guy just really disappointed with them. Maybe I got a bad batch? Anyways I will give the PS4S a chance.

I can understand that. I was just taking to my neighbor that has an E63 AMG S and he said he loves the DWS’s... another good all season option

My 255/35 as3+ are louder than the ps4s for sure, but the extra beef is so much more compliant than the 245/35 ps4s. They take bumps and road imperfections much better. I also run way less pressure, usually 36/32 F/R and sometimes closer to 34/30.

I'm not surprised the as3+ don't do well in extreme cold, they are more performance oriented and I think they like warmer temps, works great in the winter in Texas!

I'm getting the Wagner IC put on tomorrow, I will adjust the PSI when I do that, there SO much better than the Kuhmo's that came on the car. Can't wait to try them out in the rain too
