True opinion of STM/Wilwood front brake kit, street use

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I drive my car on the street for roll racing, and occasional cruises. I am really looking to get a good answer as if braking power a few times back to back the car will stop well. I want to switch to a 15 inch tire setup for drag racing at track, but am scared i wont be able to stop quickly on the street from 160-60 after a run.

    Anyone using this setup?

For drag the kit does a fairly good job, still scary at the 1/4 mile, however do not use it for street driving.

The kit is too small and heats up too quick for street hooning of any kind.

using hd rotors (STM does sell these) and a decent pad they work good for a daily. they dont work as good as a carbon ceramic but are more than adequate for any daily driving activities

Idk he also stated 160-60 runs lol

You still think the STM kit is reliable for that kind of driving ? I definitely didn’t like it normal driving around town.

Essex/AP Racing Drag Kit is the way to go if you want to run it on a daily.
It's a little heavier than the STM/Wilwood kit, but can actually handle the abuse of 1/4mi, 1/2mi, lots of high speed highway runs, stop/go traffic, etc (speaking from personal experience).

I just finished mine! Pretty happy overall with mine!! 2 pieces full floating rotors, 8mm bigger lighter than OEM and MUCH stronger! Combined with New centrics PQ PRO pads(RS5)!

Did you email AP Racing (located in UK) or Essex (located in USA)?
You should give Essex a call, because they ship all over the USA.

I think the bigger concern would be running the 15s and full slicks on the street.

Btdt, wrecked the car lol. Stupid water sprinklers.

Facts are this. Other platforms use the same Wilwood parts we sell for race cars that run road course duty, albeit they are lighter cars, etc.

For the detractors. Sure if you go with a small piston Wilwood caliper as some companies sell. They can be on the edge for street use. If large piston calipers like we offer, and two HD rotor choices, one for extreme duty such as 1/2 mile are used. We have found these stop just as well as the stock steel set up even with a few repeated stops from 1/4 mile pulls etc. We have at least 100 1/4 mile runs on our set on the shop car, a 1/2 mile event, and about 2K worth of street driving. So much, in fact, we just had to replace the pads yesterday. That is how much driving we have done on them. The car stops amazingly well and does so while dropping over 50 lbs off the front. Do not let people who have never driven on a set tell you how they stop.

Any direct questions we would be happy to answer them!

I went with Tony’s setup for the front. Have not driven it yet as we will install after all the tuning abuse. But expect reviews from 200-60mph type tests sooner than later!
