Remote Start with Factory Key Fob - Key Port

Put the Fortin Remote Start in my Wife's Q5. I went this route, because its only $160 all in, utilizes the factory keyfob, you don't sacrifice a spare key, simple install, and there are a ton of options that it allows you choose between.

Excellent work! Great video, was thinking about this the other day, very nice to be able to utilize the Audi key fob.

Yeah that was the only part where cursing ensued. Once that was back in its place, everything else went very smoothly.

I was just reading the instructions for this on their site... There's all these options about an alarm and what not. Does this disable the factory alarm from working? Is there any downsides/loss of functionality now that you've had it for a bit?

The EVO-AUDT1 only supports up to MY 2014: https://fortin.ca/en/products/evo-rs.../vehicles.html

For 2015-2016 MY you'll need the EVO-ALL which requires a key. I don't see a key-box or vehicle-specific harnesses so there might be more required (in addition to the flashlink module).

At least that's what I can figure out, not having actually done it.

What I don't get is 2013+ Q5/SQ5's were all the B8.5 generation, so in theory a 2013/2014 had the same electronics as the 2015+. I might order the items above regardless and give it a try as another SQ5 owner installed it without any issues and all SQ5's were Push to Start.

One that isn't clear to me .. if a key is required .. how the keyless access is supposed to work. If there's a key in the car, I can't lock/unlock the car by touching the handles. I'd hate to lose this functionality.

any remote start as far as I know is going to require you to use key fb to unlock, and lock when using the auto start feature. with that said I can now lock the car with the fob while it's running. I couldn't do this prior to the fortin unit I'm in a 2014 sq5 p+

Yea I kinda group the Q5/SQ5's together, so technically all SQ5's built before 2018 were B8's. Whereas 2013-2017 Q5's were B8.5 and 2012 and older were B8's.

you're supposed to remove the battery from the fob so the prox doesn't work.

The Fortin stuff is great, I did the t harness install in my 13 Q5 3.0t does exactly what it says it would do, on the plus side I got a flash link programmer out of the deal, I just put one in my B6 A4 and my brothers 06 F150 today with the rf kits.

I have two keys. Both stay in the house and both will start the car with 3 locks. You have to use the key fob to unlock the car after it has been auto started. That is for security, and a work around for not losing a key it makes sense to me that it works this way. you don't want to auto start your car and any joe blow can unlock your car and drive off lol. A bonus feature for me is now i can leave my car once started and use the key fob to lock the doors where as previously I had to manually use the key. During install the most PITA part is wiring to the keyport which is how I believe the fortin bypasses needing a key that stays in the car

Looking at their website, the SQ5's 2015-2017 will need to give up a fob for it to be wrapped seems like... bummer

I took the valet key & the battery out of my remote, works well. I had to try like 8 different wraps of the wire though to get it to fit back in and work. This was my biggest hurdle on the install. Actually, that and having 1 ohm diodes. Make sure you buy them.
