    RS5 Battery tender questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Do any of you guys that use a battery tender for seasonal storage of your RS5 have any tips or gotchas? Attach at the battery or under the hood?

I have a few of these and they have worked well on my other cars, have not needed to use one on the RS5 until now.

I'm using that exact battery tender on my RS5. It's been stored from November 1st to present, without starting once. No problems at all, and have done this the past 3 years. I also have STABIL fuel stabilizer with a full tank in a heated garage.

You can attach the positive to the terminal under the hood, and there's a negative/grounding terminal near the driver side throttle body.

I will fire 'er up end of the month and take it for a rip ... I CAN'T WAIT!

Dont you have to move the car once in while because of the car tires sitting there on the same spot for too long

we are the borg! resistance is futile.

Technically, you can get flat spots, however, I haven’t had this issue yet. I’ve also read, driving for a bit takes care of it, it’s not permanent.

I’ll likely grab these for next year when I get new tires. My Pirellis are pretty cooked anyway...

^flat stoppers are fantastic, I'd suggest skipping the narrow ones and going for the 14" versions, makes getting the car on them a ton easier with wider tire like those on the RS5.

As for tenders, we have the Automatic Battery Charger/Maintainer from Schwaben setup on all the shop cars, it comes with a hardwire kit which I find very handy vs dealing with alligator clips, to be that's a must-have feature on any tender setup.

Pretty much as others have said. I had mine stored for a little over two months last spring while I was in Europe taking delivery of my new car and traveling around. I just got an automatic tender from my local auto parts store and hooked it up to the terminal under the hood as instructed in the owners manual. Had no issues. I hooked it up the night before I left and the LED was green in the morning indicating full battery charge. I also put some fuel stabilizer in the tank just to be on the safe side, filled the tank and inflated the tires to max load pressure, although I had PS4S on the car, which don't have metal belts, so flat spotting shouldn't be much of an issue.

Does anyone have a suggestion for mounting battery tender pigtail (the one with the bolt-on connections) under the hood of a 2012 S5 V8? I’ve driven my every winter since I bought it 5 years ago, but it’s in great shape and I decided to baby it for weekends and road trips when the weather is nicer. Mine is a 6-speed with low miles. I’ve thought about something different, but can’t replace the smiles per mile this V8 gives me. Thanks.
