Safety Recall 20BX - Fuel Tank Heat Shield Bracket

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey,

Got a recall notice in the mail today for our 2018 TTS, for the fuel tank heat shield.

    Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Audi TT Roadster Quattro and TT Coupe Quattro vehicles.
In the event of a crash, the fuel tank may become damaged by the fuel tank heat shield bracket .

    Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cap on the fuel tank heat shield bracket, free of charge.
The recall is expected to begin April 10, 2020.
Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
Volkswagen’s number for this recall is 20BX.

Anyone else get one of these, yet?
I HATE taking my car to the Stealership... they ALWAYS screw something up!

    Thanks,
    John

Does anyone has the recall letter, would like to know if there’s a recall number I need to show to the Dealer since I haven’t received any letter and my TT RS is 2018. Thanks.

It appears to be a purely mechanical flaw requiring enhanced crash protection to avoid tank puncture.

The NHTSA is of course a USA Government agency, but perhaps a Mexican dealership can still use same to inquire? The Audi "Safety Recall 20BX" should be sufficient however.

Taking my jb4 off is such a PIA. I may blow this off unless I see a pinto type accident.

Should be fine. My service guy said this doesn't require scanning the car to do the recall. But just make sure to talk to service guy first since each dealership is different

VAG is very proactive when it comes to avoiding potential class action lawsuits (I sat on a jury related to Golf/Rabbit ball joints in the 90's). This relatively minor risk-averse upgrade would appear to be in that mindset.

Thanks, I'll wait until after the Covid-19 issues are behind us.
Sounds like it's something even the dealer can't screw up... at least easily.

auto repair is essential so they should remain open. probably a good time to do it since it should be slow. also helps service techs out as they typically only get paid if they have cars to work on. just a thought :)
need to call ahead though to make sure they have the part in stock.

Yeah... thinking much more about my convenience than theirs, TBH.

Nothing against the techs working hard to make a living, but I'm not a fan of taking any of my cars anywhere near the service department of my local dealers...
In 40+ years, I've just had WAY too many screw-ups and it doesn't seem to be brand dependent at all, just universal dealer BS.
Their focus is turn and burn, not doing it right.

Example: On my last visit to the Audi service bay for my first oil change (@2500 miles, got the message on the dash), literally nothing else, just an oil change... took them almost 3 hours because the tech was doing 2 other cars at the same time.
He forgot to put the oil fill cap back on when done, and forgot to reset the reminder (did it when I got home).

I forget stuff too, so not slamming that, but did you check your work, drive the car, check for any codes, check your work?
I couldn't even drive it out of the parking lot without a Christmas tree on the dash... would barely stay running, really?
Inspires all kind of confidence... not.

I only use my very well-know, very trusted and 100% ethical Indie shop, which isn't an option for these recalls

    Thanks though,
    John

As do I, with good cause as it's happened more then once. It's a shame that the agency that we should most trust (dealership) is actually well down on the list!

It's not just Audi. Car dealerships are all about pushing unit sales and maximizing service profits. I get that time is money especially in the service department and line mechanics are pushed to quickly clear cases, as most consumers too are more concerned with quick turnaround. That's when taking out a seat solo and scraping sills for instance happens.

That and also people take their cars to the Dealership because of the warranty.

Here at Mexico Service Department is sometimes better business than the showroom.

I went in to the dealer for a speaker issue. Theres also a recall for that. They will replace both if the front woofers with the upgraded part.
