Quick question about the vacuum pump gasket

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Good evening people,

I will be happy if someone could reply to my weird question.

I bought a new vacuum pump gasket from the dealer and changed it, however, the next day (today) I had to take off the pump again, and to put it back, meanwhile I've noticed the two blue lines between the holes for the bolts fell off. I assume this is kind of sealant or something like that, but they peeled off easily.

Should I worry about them, and to buy a new one, or to take it off, and to put silicone, or to leave it like this?

I realize the question might be stupid, however, I prefer to ask, and to do something while the car is disassembled instead of putting back together everything, and to strip it off again.

    Thanks in advance!

    Stay healthy everyone!

    Emil

That seals the split between the cam cover cylinder head. I’ve only had one success in putting a tiny bead of RTV over a used gasket. It’s just easier to get a new one.

The repair manual says "Note: Replace the seal." as one of the dismounting notes. So Audi intends for that seal to be replaced anytime the pump is dismounted.

I understand, but the seal is brand new, I didn't even start the car.

But you compressed it and uncompressed it. The amount of look at it and you have to replace it seals and fasteners on this car is absurd. At least the thing is less than $10.

It's not about the money, it is about the quarantine. Everything is closed, nothing works here - I cannot go to Audi (the price is 21 EUR btw, but still is ok), I cannot order online because even the courier companies don't work. Anyway, I will put silicone just two small lines there, just to start the car, and once the quarantine is over, I will buy new one.

Hahaha, you are 100% right man. I was hoping someone to say ... hey dude, this is bullshit, don't worry, put it as it is.

Anyway, I took it off, but decided it to put a new one. Actually I was having a new one, but not original (I screwed up original one). A month ago I bought a refurbishment kit which was including all sealants, however the metal one I didn't like it, it was thin and single layer, not as the original one threefold layer. So, in the end I mounted the aftermarket one. Hopefully will not be leaking.

PS: Just in case I kept the original one, the new one, if this (the aftermarket gasket) is not good, I will put the original with silicone.
