    4L Q7 Meaty Tires thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Whatcha got? Need to replace summer tires this year on our Q7 TDI, running the 20" five spoke wheels. Thinking about going slightly larger than stock or aggressive tread. Let's see some Q7s on meaty tires

Dirty stock 295/35/21 count as meaty?

Thanks for the reply. Was hoping someone has messed with upsizing on the stock 20". Ran 275 45 20, maybe 275 50 20 in something like this: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

Imagined someone had thrown on some AT type tires but know this part of the forum doesn't get much traffic.

295/45/20 on my winter set. Wheels are 20x10 et25. Probably can go 8-10mm on the rear20200108_164116.jpeg20200108_164059.jpeg

The biggest you can go on 20" rims is 295/45/20 that's what i have on mine 2015 Tdi Hankook Ventus st , reasonably priced, I already put around 20K miles on them and they are holding good. stil got 7/32 thread left on them. Other tire that's reasonably priced are Toyo Proxes STIII.

It actually softens the ride too for spring suspension, on this Q7, it's not as bouncy now with 36psi all around. Don't run 44psi like the sticker says, that's the max for max load, you'll make the middle bald.

Not trying to start a forum battle but hey were terrible on my A7 and my buddy's A4. The sides are too soft and handling isn't as good as the Michelin AWS, They don't handle potholes very well either.

    Not 20's. but I went from 295/35/21 to 295/40/21:

I'd love to go up another size to 45 Profile tires, but the tire is awful close to the suspension. Maybe if I went with some spacers to push them out.

This thread ended up delivering, thanks all. I am thinking we will go with the 295 45 20 option on the silver 5 spokes for summer. Will report back. Here is ours in winter ski roadtrip mode, stock wheels with blizzaks ready for the storm

Looks great, are you on steel or air suspension?
I'd love to go up to 45 profile 21's, but I have air and lowered mine a bit with VCDS.

I'm on Air. The tire is mighty close to the bolt on the suspension, I think 45 Profile might need some spacers to fit in there...

It's gonna be difficult finding a 40 series tire in a compatible size.

For 21's? Not really. Tire rack has 10+ options, plus a couple winter/snow options if so inclined.

I'm running Atturo's myself, got them off Amazon w/ Prime. Quite pleased considering they cost less than half what the dealer quoted me for Pirelli's

My bad. I was actually thinking summer/HP AS tires. I looked a few months back and it was slim pickings. Could also have been because we were heading into winter, but it didn't appear to be a commonly stocked size.

Went with Hankook Ventus ST in 295 45 20. Happy with the upsize and I do think they will better protect the wheels in city driving / mall crawlin.

How's the change in ride or at all moving to the 295? Doesn't appear they stick out too much fromstock to be that noticeable.

I am needing to replace all 4 of ours on the same Q as yours with springs.....

I don’t have an apples to apples comparison, but going from 285 OEM summer Contisports to 295 Cont DWS06 all seasons, the ride was a bit smoother. Not a massive difference, at least not due to the minor sidewall difference. The DWS just ride way smoother than the summer tires before.

If 295/45/20s are a go, there should be no problem with 285/50/r20s correct? Just ordered a set of 285/50R-20 Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra SL for my 2014 4L TDI Prestige with steel suspension. We're mostly on-road drivers but wanted to improve the grip a bit (wider) and comfort (taller). Chicago's roads are hit or miss.

Thanks for the bump Das Ponto! I would not run K02s on my Q7 having had them on my Jeep before. Great offroad but noisy and poor grip on road, for a car that mostly sees pavement and some dirt roads on the weekend. A friend lifted his Q7 3" and is running 33" Wildpeaks. Looks badass and performs well but I'm looking for more of a balance btwn road and soft-road.
Like most tires on our Q the Ventus from 3 years ago have run low on tread quickly, and next I am thinking about BFG Trail Terrains in 265 50 20.

These actually haven't been too noisy for us, we had Wildpeak At3ws on our Q5 before and those were definitely a bit quieter. Have yet to have an issue with grip... mind you we are towing 90% of the time these days for road trips for camping. After we lift it, we should be able to fir 32's... sadly only lift for the 4M's right now is H&R's 1" springs lol.

Tempted to try the KO3s when they come out, but more than likely switch back to the Wildpeaks for the 32's... (the KO2's were a deal with Michelin so could hardly say no).

The newer trail terrain options from BFG and even Falken look really good for a more of a mixed use balance for sure.

I ended up scoring some 18s from a Touareg locally and decided to go with 265 60 18 BRG Trail Terrains. Great choice so far, handled a long road trip well and are much comfier for "mall crawling" around town, construction sites, dirt roads etc.

18s are really appropriate for a truck like the Q7. The 20s look great, but 45 sidewall is what my B5 S4 runs on, not the right call if you're leaving pavement. Too bad the factory 18s are all meh. Psyched on these Touareg wheels (Cayenne wheels work too) now if I can only find some Audi center caps that fit them

Thanks for sharing! I just picked up some stock 18"s that I plan to mount all terrain tires. I figure I'll be on the highway for many miles before I get to my off-road & dirt road destinations, so they have to handle a bit of everything well.
