    Exclamation Audi Double-Sided Adhesive Tape

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey Guys, I recently purchased an OEM Audi Black spoiler to replace my stock glacier white lip. I was a bit surprised to see that the new spoiler did not come pre taped from Audi. Normally items like this in my experience (or just Japanese cars maybe) come pre prepped ready for installation. Just wanted to know if there is a particular kind of double sided adhesive tape I need from Audi (part number?) or just any kind of skinny 3M double sided automotive tape will do? My concern is that normally from factory they would know where the tape is adhered to on the spoiler itself so it's a bit tricky for me to know exactly which areas to apply the tape to along with the particular width of the tap.

Any help regarding this would be appreciated as I wanted to install this cleanly and correctly. Thanks!

I've used hd 3m double sided tape on multiple spoilers before with good results. Just go to home Depot and get a roll.

Thats good to know, guess my concern is more around where exactly to apply the tape on the spoiler to ensure proper adhering to the trunk. Guess I'll just have to eye it.

I've used 3M DS outdoor tape for many years for things like badges, europlates etc. It's very strong.

Sweet! I'll give it a go then! Thanks guys
Still odd to me why Audi doesn't pre tape these items for ease of installation.

You'll have residue from removing the white one that you can copy on the black one for placement.

I had this same issue come up a couple weeks ago. My Audi dealer said that they were having problems with the adhesive glue (OEM) and the install kit has been permanently discontinued.

Took it to the local paint shop, had it color matched. They installed with double sided, looks great!

For me, I used 3m tape and followed the outer edge as close as I could when applying it, just dont go TOO close since it widens a bit when you press it down. Holds REALLY strong though. I have a lip spoiler on and I was able to pull the entire car backwards in neutral with two people in it just by pulling on the spoiler after I did my install.

Yea I ordered some 1/4inch width 3M auto tape for this. Fortunately I have some left over 3M adhesive promoter packets that I used on my previous car while applying the tape on the lip and then the lip on to the car.

Just in case anyone is wondering, Audi recommends using their Adhesion Pack (part# D-172-200-A2). Not sure what this kit entails but they could've saved themselves a lot of effort by just pre-taping the spoiler upon shipping.
