Its that time of year again in upstate NY. Tonight going out and doing clay bar, 3in1 complete compound (griots garage) then to finish using chem guys butter wax.
Ive been looking at the chem guys Jet sealant but its 45$ at autozone. Anyone using it?
and what do you use for compound/wax/sealant? Wouldnt mind trying some new stuff.
    thanks

wax and sealant are so 2018. lol

According to reviews , ceramic wax is very good. I'm using the mcguiard one since its out, and my black A4 look so clean, and it help to keep it clean for longer time period.

    last year I did
1- dewax ( hot water with a dishsoap and washing machine soap mix)
    2- Clay bar
3- 3 step polish (rough / med / final with orbital polisher)
    4- dewax
    5- ceramic wax.

    its a 6 hours job.
Im spraying the product every car wash.

last summer 2 stangers asked me how I keep my old pain so clean. Good enough for me.

    lets talk waxes and sealants

I’ve been happy with Adams Americana Wax and their Sealant and very happy with P&S Bead Maker.

The Americana Wax is more of a show car wax so it doesn’t last crazy long (which is why I also got their sealant), but using P&S Bead Maker every few washes really helps. Leaves the paint insanely slick. And makes washing and drying the car a lot faster/easier.

I’m gonna be trying out that Meguiars stuff mentioned above because I’ve heard a bunch of good reviews.

the ceramics are the future but in research havnt found one that last very long. The pro ceramics last a year but not spending $200.00. If your applying every car wash thats alot. How long did it last during the winter months? Ill pick up a bottle tonight and try it. Shit for 20.00 dollars if I dont like it not out much. Between Griots and Chemical guys I have over 200 in waxes. Last year i was trying diffent combos and the Griots 3in1 compound(good at taking out swirls) and Chem guys butter wax was the best overall look. One thing I dont like about Griots products pain in the ass to get off. and sometimes leaves white film if you dont let it sit 20 mins.

yeah I'm no into ceramic coating @ 200$. Where I live (hard winter) it will give a limited protection and give me trouble on annual polishing.

This is why the ceramic wax hybrid spray might be a good alternative. I got the bottle @ 21$ cad, and bottle will last 2-3 years.

Before that I was using the Klasse Sealant . It was good, can't tell if it was the best, but according to reviews it was one of the best.

yeah, the instruction on the bottle saying after the full 1st application, you need a few light spray on the final rinse, then dry the car.

Depends on how often you wash the car, but let say on the average, once every 2 weeks.
I have 2 cars (+1 beater), 1 wash every 2 weeks, and I'm starting the 3rd season with the same bottle. I have maybe a bit less than a 1/3 left.

768ml, you have plenty of juice.

Wax is old news. Trust me you don’t wanna deal with old dried out wax later which will look like scratches on the paint. Ask me how I know

This one I just give up on engine bay shine. Unless I go to a car show.
Dust get on parts way to easy and stick on it.

I just use a engine bay degreaser foam spray and a garden hose. I do the engine bay when its hot outside to make sure it all dry before using the car.

I also use a drill metal brush to make the metal part shine.

Ive always been using wax. Chem guys butter wax is my go to for wet shine. Doesnt last long. So once every month keeps it looking good. My car is dark blue so looks like crap in 3 days.
Overdose- are you using a buffer on the Maguirs or applicators. Seems like a buffer would be overkill on a spray.

for the ceramic wax hybrid spray ? no.

But for the initial polishing I used a porter cable polisher and 3 pads from eshine.ca

    I just followed the instruction

apparently. But the car need to be dewaxed first.

unless someone do a benchtest under a microscope and mineral hardness test picks, hard to say which product is the best.

From what I saw on youtube, my experience and the price; this is really fine with me.

Still going to try it. it takes me all day to do 1 car. So if it gives a good shine will use it on jeep, b6 and TT. B7 will get the wax.

Hasn’t been mentioned yet so I’ll add my input. If you really want results get a good random orbital. Here’s a comparison of a friends 1990 f-150 I detailed last summer. The G21 in the bigger box is quite a bit more $ than the entry level 6” buffer from griots, results are worth it though.

    The BOSS G21

    6” random orbital

there is a big difference between the 2. Did you paint correct then compound etc? What did you use for compound wax etc? looks really good. You should be proud. almost looks like new paint after its cured. My car is dark blue and when using Griots compound with 2 coats chem guys butter brings out the metal flake in the paint. Im using a 6inch maybe I need to jump up. Do have alot of control with my 6inch though.

Here is my black a4 after buffing with meguiars 105/ 205 sealed with their synthetic sealant 2.0.... crazy hard paint and difficult to correct. Used the harbor freight orbital.... the other is my moms lancer with griots complete compound and meguiars 07 glaze...no sealant yet gonna use jet seal20200208_171251.jpeg20200216_142453.jpeg20200201_170852.jpeg20200204_133751.jpeg

I tried the sealant 2.0 wasnt really a fan. looked good but nothing compared to Chemical guys butter. But thats because its carnauba based. And thats always going to look better than sealant. But a issue with you would be the Carnauba melting because of the weather. Wanna try Griots compound/chem guys butter/jet seal. Wonder how that would turn out. Going to try that mid spring.
Did you do paint correction on yellow car or was that fade from the sun? Both look great.

also, I use blobeliminator for stone chips.

    - you fill the stone chip with OEM paint with clear in it and a toothpick
    - dry
    - sand it with the blob eliminator.

Yo do this after the dewax, and is the car is not too contaminated, before the clay bar.

Doing a complete detail on a car is a 12h job.
Orbital polisher are very slow, but more permissive than a rotary one.

Yeah it was pretty oxidized. Dont forget that you have to use a sealant before the wax.... I used meguiars 07 glaze then jet seal then mothers ultimate carnuba on an orange camaro... turned out ok.

Yeah both sections were corrected with the same Griot's orange correcting pad and Griot's fast correcting cream the only thing that changed was the buffer being used. The wax I used was Griots poly wax. Here’s another comparison.

sealant before wax? I was told either sealant or wax as final coat. hmmm been doing that 2 years now. Gonna have to research.
Overdose-never heard of blob eliminator I'll be purchasing. Have alot of chips this year. thanks

went out last night and spent 6 hours cleaning waxing etc. Friggin buffer shit the bed. had to do all of it by hand. And using griots compound is a pain in the ass by hand. Time for a new buffer. Not going with the griots again. Anyone have good luck with harbor frieght buffers? Also noticed that drivers side fender getting rust. Going to local shop and price it out. Wifes TT needs couple dents pulled also from door dings. shit never ends.
Anyone what to give me a step by step on filling paint chips?

I have both of the harbor freight "Bauer" orbitals. I dont use their backing pads though. On the long throw I'm using a 5" red torq brand backing pad and on the short throw I'm using a 3" lake country backing pad. The long throw polisher removes alot more defects for sure, but is pretty loud. But for 90 bucks not bad

you have mainly 3 type of machine

    1- Orbital polisher
    2- rotary polisher
    3- buffer

For a newbie complete detailing job, a orbital polisher is what you need.

the rotary one is less permissive, easy to burn the pads of the paint. but faster.

A 10-12'' buffer is more like a wax applicator for huge job, like boats. I always put wax by hand with a micro fiber.

The only rotary movement you'll do on a car is the polishing process.

washing, drying, waxing , etc : all in vertical/horizontal movement. Always. Swirls is way more apparent than stripes.
