    C7 vs C8 RS7

Looking to possibly upgrade from my '15 RS5 into either a slightly used C7 now or hold out and wait for the C8 RS7 maybe in '22 after they've ironed out their 1st gen problems.

For the C7, after some research I'm seeing possible turbo screen clog problems - what other glaring problems are there that I need to be on a lookout for? Probably looking to go with the stock air suspension over DRC to be able to easily adjust ride height to get in/out of my driveway via CETE module I believe it is? Will VCDS allow me to code something that will adjust my height via MMI(comfort vs dynamic) without any 3rd party mod? My RS5 will scrape if I take the driveway square on, so sadly I can't lower that at all. With this being air, I can go slightly lower while driving and lift up pulling in the driveway.

Next, how many of you are jumping into the C8 RS7 from the C7? I've been watching all the Youtube vids of the C8 and it looks pretty sweet. Only thing I'm unsure of is the double center console touch screen. I almost prefer the temps/seat heating and cooling to be buttons and knobs, but I get why they did it.

I don't like the look of the new car so I will not be switching. I like physical buttons for one on the inside. Easy to change settings and whatnot while keeping eyes on road rather than having to look at a screen. Exterior is too busy on the C8 and I don't like the mustache rear valence over the exhaust. As for clearance, I find ground clearance to be a non-issue as I have DRC and not air suspension. Car is a 2018 RS7 Performance.

Agreed and good point on the rear valence. Maybe they'll adjust that in a few years.

Better purchase a lot of Windex to clean all the fingerprints off all those glossy screens inside the car. Not a fan. Too many controls on one screen, so when it dies, you can't do a lot of shit.

Hands down, C7 is the way to go. With the way things are in the economy right now, used car prices are dropping and you can get a screaming deal on a lightly used 17 or 18.

I'm definitely seeing that. I'm on a lookout for some sort of white since my rs5 is ibis and I love it.

Is it worth going for the performance trim if I'm going to tune anyways? I'm reading that tune outputs are about the same for both non performance and performance variants. I don't really care too much for the ceramic brakes or the drc either.

Not to mention eventual replacement costs of those screens, I've known a few local C8 owners that had theirs fail (obviously a warranty item) but it would have run several thousand PER screen.

That said, I do wish there was an aftermarket solution for us to be able to add something like a virtual cockpit dash to our cars.

Yeah replacement wouldn't be fun, and wow already replaced having only been out barely 2 years?

I'm partial to the analog gauge cluster. It's similar to a smart watch vs analog watch argument I guess where analog just looks more fancy. With that said I haven't worn my analog watches except for special occasions now after getting a digital watch LOL. I haven't driven a car long enough with the virtual cockpit to fall in love with it quite yet.

I love my analog gauges in my car. I wear an automatic watch every day. I digital watches were cheap and plentiful since I was 8, probably $12. I just have special automatic watches for special occasions is all. I even own a manual wind. That being said, I like to mess with things so I take them apart and refinish them and to a degree have fixed a few. I really should go to school for that but the stupid/curiosity gene is strong.

Sorry I meant smartwatch not digital haha. Edited original post to reflect that; thanks for the catch. I actually haven't worn a digital watch in many years.

Get a 2017 or 2018 RS7. 2017 is the first year that comes with Carplay/Android auto built -in. You can add it to prior years, but is a bit of a hassle. The cete suspension module is very much worth it, as you can easily switch between various drive heights. While you can program a drive height with VCDS, you are limited both in the extent you can lower, and you can't assign various heights to different drive modes that way.

All good info, thank you. If I do end up picking one up it seems the must have mods are Milltek exhaust, ds1/apr tune, and cete module.

As the other guy said it's why I went with a 2018. 2017+ have Android Auto/Apple Car Play. Milltek is a given but tune and kiss goodbye to your warranty. If you're going to do that just buy an older car out of (or close to being out of) warranty and save the money. Mine's our baby hauler so, for now, I don't want to mess with it. Warranty stays intact and a reliable piece of transportation. Also why I did the Performance was the DRC felt amazing and having the extra power without killing the warranty was worth it to me, once again, for now.

Yeah I'd want some warranty left over as I won't immediately be doing the tune to find any possible problems and get those sorted before voiding. I waited until my RS5 was out of warranty before tuning but part of that was because there wasn't really anyone putting out tunes worth flashing. When JHM came out with their stage 2 ECU/TCU tune which they claim to give about 40-50 hp, the butt dyno loved it! Getting double those gains in the RS7 with a higher baseline than the RS5 is going to be nuts. I can definitely see why you're in no rush to tune the RS7 as you've already got your go fast toy in the R8 haha.

I'm torn on the DRC vs air suspension setup. Part of me, coming from the RS5, wants the stability and less roll of the DRC in the RS7 to be more planted around corners. Then the other part is like hey the RS7 is the next level of a beast GT car than the RS5 is, so why not go for some comfort. With the added ability to be able to adjust height on the fly, I'm leaning more towards air. I also don't care too much about the CCB as northern VA gets all sorts of weather throughout the year, and heck throughout 1 season. CCBs if not in their optimal conditions (dry and warmed up) tend to be more noisy and inconsistent vs steel. Come to think about it, I don't/won't be tracking the car and most of my use for the vehicle is spent going straight on highways, so the benefits (DRC and CCB) of the performance trim minus the extra HP will just be wasted in my case. If I can save the 8-10k going prestige trim and just going with a tune, I'd gladly do that(once warranty is out).

I will be buying a used 2020 in a couple of years, love the width, 22 inch rims and that layout of the dash. I am over the pop up screen. In my s7 I had the comfort seats and loved the massage and cooling, I even used vagcom to bump the massage level up to max. The sport seats in my rs7 are okay, but you won't have to choose when going with the 2020 sport seats. The c7 rs7 with air suspension has a raise selector in mmi which takes bumps/driveways out of the equation. I have had drc in the rs6 which was junk and had to be replaced I am sure today's is so much better, but I would recommend the air suspension it is the best of all worlds. Even with the 21 inch rims in dynamic it doesn't beat you up, comfort is fantastic for highway cruising you don't hear the seams in the interstate.

Heh, little did I know that supply would plummet faster than demand ... and every Audi dealer I’ve ever spoken to is begging to buy my car. So they can no doubt sell me a ++++ marked-up replacement, but wow was I off on this one! If you can sell w/o buying a replacement, it looks good out there! If you’re in the market to buy [gulp]

Broo I'm trying! I've seen two white RS7's with the options I'm looking for, but one has structural damage and is still listed and the other one had frontal damage I didn't want to deal with. The struggle is real.
