2009 Audi A4 Quattro start and stalls (VCDS scan)

Hey guys,

First time poster here (i'll try to be as descriptive as possible)

My A4 (2009 2.0TFSI CAEB) was obviously running fine until one day i tried starting it, it idles (rough at about 1100rpm and slowly in stages goes down and down and down until it stalls. So i checked the sparks on each cylinders and we are good on all four. Fuel delivery was also checked and all is fine. Compression is about 140psi on all four cylinders. I looked at live data while cranking and i have signals from the Crank as well as the Cam. Where should i go next?

p/s i wish Audi made this car a bit more user friendly to work on. Makes my MK4 GTI a gem compared to this 2.0TFSI

J519 local data bus 2 as well as G395 and G238. So that's the LIN bus between the J519, the G395, and the G238. The other members of that LIN bus is the J530 Homelink transmitter and the driver door seat memory buttons. There is a TSB for G395 wiring problems. But you'd need to go and unplug the G395 and then the G238 and see if the bus error DTC does away with one or the other device detached. The DTCs seem to imply the G238 is dead and the G395 is talking non-sense. The are driven by fuses in fuse panel C (left end of dash), row 1, fuses 5 and 12. You should check those.

Then you have four more devices attached to the ECM with problems. G62 coolant temp, G31 MAP, N145 right motor mount, and manifold flap position issue (monitored by G336 sensor, implemented by N316 solenoid). The only commonality here is the T14f plug, the large 14-pin plug that hangs off the intake manifold (along with the 3-pin plug to the knock sensor and the 8-pin plug to the injectors). I'd unplug and replug that thing and see if that cleans up the connection. Check the wires while you're at it.

I'll be checking all respective connectors and hit it with electrical contact cleaner too while im at it.
I'll also check power on all fuses...
Smac770, so would you say my problem for the time being could be electrical?

update:
i went through the wiring and connectors on that T14f connector along with the knock and injectors wires (close-by so why not).
Check all the fuses again and they are all okay. This manage to get rid of some of my errors. Alternator spits out 13.2v during short idle.

New found symptom:
car would hold idle a bit longer than yesterday but still very rough and stalls as soon as i gave a little bit of gas (no response in terms of raised RPM, just cuts off engine)

Need advice on:
Where should i start to diagnose the 03020 - Local databus 2 ?

I already discussed the "local databus 2", that's the J519 LIN bus 2, with the G395 and G238 devices. Did you check the bus status after unplugging them, as well as checking their fuses? Something on that single wire bus is making issues. Did you search on that G395 TSB to look over the wiring defect that might be possible on your vehicle?

Short to plus on the right motor mount, my guess would be it's simply failed and needs to be replaced. The other possibility is the wire that runs from the mount plug pin 2 back to the ECM has been shorted to something sourcing 12v. You might actually want to open up that ECM box (under the washer fuild filler tube in the plenum chamber) and make sure things are dry in there; pull the two big plugs off the ECM and make sure they look good.

No idea what would cause the stall as soon as you touch the gas.

apology for the late update. and yes i found out that there is a TSB for the J519 circuit problem. I do have a question about dealing with the dealer (never been there ever as i have always worked on m own car plus all my cars always starts out as a project car), i know for a fact that my car is out of warranty, for a TSB im assuming i have to cover the cost correct? unlike recalls?

as for the mount, im leaning towards it being malfunctioning being the car has 179K on it. would you think measuring the other sides resitance and comparing the one on the right would be a good start?

i've used up my weekend to solve the start stall issue and i have to say i've been successful. looking at the live data from the TV Value vs the RPM at idle (87.5 % @ 1100RPM) lead me to chase a suffocation issue. its embarrassing but im letting everyone know here incase it ever happen to someone else, replace your air filter every once in a while fellas. :D my intake hose going into the TV was literally collapsed during idle because of this.

A TSB is just a service bulletin, it's not a warranty extension or a recall. So it's a "hey you might run into this problem, here's how to analyze and resolve it". I would tend to just do the work myself, unless there's something to the procedure that is outside the scope of a home garage.

Yeah, on the mount, you could just pull the plug on both sides and see if one is a short. They are easy to get to if you can lift the car.

Nice find on the thottle plate duty cycle at idle issue. The maintenance schedule for our car has the engine air filter at every 60k miles.

Wow, Audi of America has gone even more dick than they already were as an anti-owner entity. They've now put the maintenance schedules behind a VIN wall. I've never seen a company go through more steps and actions year after year to scream "don't do business with us". Their parts site was already crap, and then has become nearly non-functional over the past year. And who the hell puts the owner's manuals behind a VIN wall? Well, with the electric motors, I imagine that might just be the case. And that's fine. I can't wait for quad electric motors to finally arrive so we can dump the ICE engines and their absurd variety of undiagnoseable components, the transmissions and transfer cases and differentials, the friction brake systems.
