If rear parking sensors are disconnected, does it require calibration?

Shop is telling me that they need to send my car to Audi to have the rear parking sensors calibrated. True or False? They were not replaced, just disconnected.

Is that something I can do on my own? (Have VCP pro but have not even downloaded software for it yet).

Well that certainly doesn't apply to the front sensors.

No, disconnecting them does not require calibration. Removing them would.

^^so crap - maybe I should have explained. They did get removed and the same sensors bolted back on in the same locations. I was thinking that it would be more significant of an issue of the actual sensors were replaced considering different revisions and such.

I guess that comes back to my original question - is that something I can do with VCP or Vag Com?

I'd test them out when you get the car back, it's not like ACC where it needs readapted, they are simple radar sensors. We swapped the front distance sensors from my friends S6 into a new grille and they functioned fine.

Yeah, the body shop is saying they might need to send the car to their regular audi dealer for calibration...I'm trying to avoid the car being shipped all over town and sitting in a dealer lot for a couple days....I don't really trust dealers lol.

To boot...I'm not paying this because it's insurance but - they say that this calibration charges about $2200???

You know the old adage what you don't know can't hurt you? Doesn't make sense to constantly worry about where your car is, who's driving it and why. Just look forward to the day you pick up the car in like-new condition.

Oh yeah, I understand. I'm not an expert on this by any means, but I would most definitely take the car back and test if the sensors need re-calaibrated before you let them ship it off. I had my bumper off/sensors disconnected/etc. on my B8.5 S4 multiple times and never had issues. If they're the same sensors, same locations, you should be ok. If they were new, then I could see a potential need.

Parking sensors should not need calibration. They can be unplugged and plugged back in without issue, simple sensor.

Adaptive cruise/Emergency braking radar sensors do when disconnected and it is a pricey procedure to be done properly.
