    1.8T valve cover modification?

Curious if anyone here has modified the 1.8T valve cover vent on the head??? Thinking about drilling these out and tapping for a screw putting some steel wool in to capture most of the oil before it gets to the catch can.

How often do you plan to clean it out because eventually it will be full of crap instead of the catch can.

Probably once ever oil change or so. I am getting rid of the whole pcv system just going to crank vent and vent on the head to catch can setup. No need for any of the stock stuff on a built engine.

A place between here and there

I removed mine totally. Just drill out the rivets and clean it up. I just used a welding stone bit and ground it flush (or close enough) with the valve cover. Not sure about the AMB, but I have an AWM and it came with a 2-piece plastic splash guard that sits over the intake cam. I just use this for for a splash guard vs both the plastic ones on top of the cam and the riveted plate.

Main and only reason I did this was to release crank case pressure faster when in boost with a BT setup. Learned this from a B6 guy years back and did it to my car. Reason he says he did it was the reason I did, with the bonus of not having to replace valve cover gaskets so often. That is the main reason person who showed me this mod told me why he does it.

I personally run two -10AN lines to under the vehicle for emissions. One line from the valve cover and one from the oil cooler adapter housing (crank ventilation port). Been running this way for a few years now, no issue.

Yeah I am planning on running 10am lines to a catch can or maybe recirc before turbo inlet.

If you want to try something different, you could plumb the breather into the downstream exhaust via an angled-in fitting that would help evacuate the top-end. It's more of an old-school method.

I dont think I want to do that mostly because of emissions. Oil vapor is still vapor that contains hydrocarbons and so on. Think it’s best to recirc. But thanks anyway.
