    Steering Lock Coding Problem

Well my steering lock saga continues....Last week, my 2012 A6, came up with the dreaded "Do not drive car, Steering Defective" message. So my car was unable to start and stuck with the parking brake on.
Had the car painfully towed to my indy guy. called up today and said he replaced the steering lock and tried everything buy cannot get the steering lock properly coded and the car still will not start (and the damn parking brake is still on).
Says I now have to tow the car again to the dealer to fix.

Has anyone had this issue and had it repaired and coded without bringing to dealer?

    thanks

    Steering Lock Coding Problem

bro anyone can install it that’s the Easy part BUT the only way to get it coded, adapted, immobilizer activated and component protection removed is thru a connection to geKo (VAG server in Germany) via ODIS. Only people who have Odis are the stealerships or people like my self who have invested a lot of time and money into these cars.

If you were local I’d help you out. But unfortunately you have to take it to audi. Or find someone with odis

Thanks...Indy guy now says he hasnt replaced it yet, so I am trying to get him to replace the steering lock, then have it towed to dealer for coding. I fear if I just have it towed to dealer, they will say "Our policy is to replace the whole rack" which is like $4-6K

    Okay
But it’s not on the rack it’s in the steering column.
But you are correct you will save time
And money by getting him to swap it out and towing it there. They may charge you for 1 hour of time. Tell them you need your immobilizer coded. They might try to tell
You it won’t work on a used module but I PROMISE you it will.

Yes, thanks...I had it in my head that the steering lock control module was on the rack, but the one on the rack is the control module for the steering itself.
When I talked to the dealer they said it would be $400-600 to code the module...Kinda of a rip off, but I will likely have no choice.
