    De-chrome question

    Hi everyone,

I have a 2017 Audi A4 in white and not long ago I got my car tinted 15% all around as well as my roof and side mirrors vinyl wrapped in gloss black. While I love the way it looks, i can't decide whether i want to dechrome the front grill along with the 2 lower grills.

What should I do if I want to dechrome my grills? I've heard of plastidip, vinyl wrap, or just replacing the whole grill with a black optics grill. What route should I take?

My grill is the same. Vinyl wrap looks like the original black optics grill and don't cause a mess like plastidip. I tried both and will always go for the vinyl wrap.

Thanks, that's what I figured. I talked to the people who did my roof and side mirror wraps and I think I'll be going the vinyl wrap route.

    Thanks for the input!!

I just don’t want to rip the front end off my car to put a new grill on, especially because it’s still under warranty. So was hoping to just get the OEM grill wrapped black but can’t find any photos of it.

if you don't want to take the bumpers off then i'd suggest plastidipping... heat + those angles in the grill on wrap = nightmare and would probably look like a backyard job...

I got my reflectors tinted when I got the trim vinyl wrapped. I Plasti dipped my grill, but that's only temporary until the RS style honeycomb grill shows up from China in a month or so. Black stock grill doesn't have 1/4 the presence of the honeycomb IMO.

I also spent $20 on some eBay to replace everything with black badges (rings are Plasti dipped). Can't speak to longevity, but they look good.IMG_20200418_172218.jpegIMG_20200420_201000~2.jpegIMG_20200420_201023~2.jpeg

Going with the genuine items does always work well and there's little worry about it chipping, ripping or not looking 100%, but with that said it's definitely not the least costly way to go. Most, if not all the black optic items are listed here:

    A4, S4, RS4, Allroad B9 | '16-'19 Exterior Parts

I've recently added the black optic window trims for the sedan because unlike the allroad/avant the rear side window on the sedan does NOT need to be replaced. Also the upper window trims are split into two pieces so it's not so unruly to ship fearing damage in transit.

    Cheers,

I ended up getting it wrapped in gloss black vinyl and I couldn't be happier. More cheaper than ordering black optics grill and paying for install...
