Question Adaptive and Non-Adaptive Headlight Assemblies Interchangeable?

So I recently got into an accident with my 2008 Audi A4 Quattro S-Line. I was fine, as was the other person involved, however I did sustain a fair bit of damage to my front right area. My front right headlight assembly will need to be replaced, but my model has the adaptive headlight system. Based on my searches, the different in price between each headlight assembly is about $600... Is it possible to install a non-adaptive headlight assembly where an adaptive one was? I'm aware the car will warn me of the adaptive headlight system not working, but I can deal with that if it means saving hundreds of dollars in repairs. I've done some searching, but found very little on my exact model of car.

From what I know, which is very little, you need a new module for the non-AFS headlights, and to recode in VCDS.

Where are you located? I have a few good used adaptive B7 headlights.

The non-AFS headlight would take a different ballast. Once installed you can code both headlights in VCDS as non-adaptive headlights and they should work fine.

My car didn't come with AFS/sensors, but I built a bi-xenon set using one AFS and one non-AFS headlight

From what I understand, you can go that way...install AFS lights in a non-AFS car...with coding. But, if you go the other way, ie install non-AFS lights in an AFS car, you will get a dash adaptive headlight failure warning, even with VCDS coding. I am told this is because the actual module is different.

Ah, after I wrote that I wondered the same thing.

Can you not disconnect the sensors and code the headlights as standard bi-xenons? I would think that if they were coded as standard, the sensors would simply not engage

Not sure. I would assume unplugging the sensors would just throw the warning also. I think the OP's best bet is to source used AFS assemblies.
