    CTS Turbo K04 role call

Sorry to bump an old thread but I thought some people might be interested in some CTS 1070 logs.

This turbo has no problems flowing air. MAF is between 280-290 throughout 6-7K
    Attachment 213304

Holds boost well. This is my 100 octane tune so it tapers boost to 18 PSI at redline. My 93 octane tune boosts even better at high RPM’s. The best part is that I’m hitting 20 PSI at 2600 RPM’s. This turbo spools fast
    Attachment 213307

Here’s the 93 octane file. Still hits 20 psi at 6700 RPM.
    Attachment 213308

N75 duty cycle is where it should be.
    Attachment 213306

This is a pretty solid turbo.

Great update Evo! I re-adjusted my wastegate down to .5 bar after fixing a few things about a month ago. I need to post another log soon. Mine is still holding strong. I think I have a hair over 10k miles on the CTS K04. I still love ripping this car nearly every day.

I have the same turbo on my stroked 1.8T ( adaptor flange on the head to mate it up). Spool is great, pulls very well. Right now I'm getting it dialed in and have about 800 miles on it. One thing I have noticed is its a bit "chirpy" when its first started. Give it a rev and you get a few chirps. Once warm it quiets down. No sighs of compressor damage, boost is just fine. Have any of you running this turbo on the B7 noticed the same thing?

Just want to make sure its not an issue with the turbo.

Chirpy? I get a lot of flutter in 1st and 2nd, like on partial throttle when I let off. Haven't noticed any chirping sound.

Thanks for the feedback. I spent some time under the hood and found an intake leak, I think that may have been the problem. I get a light flutter noise as well. I'm assuming that part of this is that the turbo does not have a silencer. Second oil change on the new motor ( first was at 150 miles). I have about 650 miles on this oil and everything looks good, fine gray metal on the magnet from the rings seating and that seems to be it.

Yes. It has no turbo muffler even though it has the provisions for it. The outlet is straight through so you’ll hear some more noises. Since yours is on a 1.8T who knows where that chirping sound is coming from. The 1.8T has more tubes than a large intestine

Found the problem, the nuts on the turbo flange had backed off (along the head). Snugged them back down and the chirp is gone. Time for a hardware upgrade. As far as tubing goes converting to the B7 turbo really neatens things up. At most the 1.8t has is one extra tube for the air injection. On my stroked 1.8T the turbo is holding 22 psi to redline, it seems very well matched to the engine.

I’m talking about the rats nest of vacuum tubes under the intake manifold. It’s been a while since I worked on a 1.8T but I always hated trying to find broken lines or broken check valves.

How did you measure/guess the wastegate change to. 5bar? IIRC CTS sets it more around. 8 right? I need to adjust/change mine and would love some tips on dialing it in as with my 034 tune it keeps over boosting.

Cts sends them out set between 6-7psi, thats what they said anyway. If its overboosting, your prob gonna wanna back it off a little. I have mine set about 7psi right now, and need to run 60% max duty to keep from overboosting. But still dialing in my tune. I'm tuned by Motoza.Screenshot_20210803-015959.jpg

What are folks running for clutch? I had a single mass flywheel setup installed by Southbend a few years ago and just recently I'm getting rev spike/boost spike under moderate/hard throttle in upper gears - like 5th gear hard acceleration 3k-3.5k quick spike and catch. forget what clutch disk it was, rush job due to being out of town over thanksgiving holiday. would like a recommendation as I look to replace. as the slip is only light right now, flywheel is probably okay, maybe I should stick with southbend?

ECS RA4 for 90,000 miles now. No signs of slipping or any problems at all.

I cannot find my invoice, it may have been the stg2 endurance kit for stock flywheel not a single mass. I should call the shop.

Car has been giving me a lot of boost issues since I loaded my 034 k04 tune, looking like it's not the software but a damaged EVAP hose under the car (I ran over something last winter on the highway damaging the bumper and some other stuff). When its not in soft limp/CEL on it can really run like a raped ape, fun to pull 5psi over 100pmh with partial throttle. I'm still nursing my clutch, it will slip in 5th/6th if I boost 20-25psi. Still plenty of power keeping it at 10-12psi for now.

Just to wrap things in case someone has similar issues. Since installing my 034 K04 tune I've had some real odd boost issues, regular soft limp/full limp. Codes all over boost (P0234) and various evap related codes like P0441. Well...finally figured out most of the issues, it was the 3bar MAP sensor I installed as part of the 034 software hardware spec. The sensor finally failed one evening, reading 2500mbar even at idle. I swapped back to the OE MAP temporarily and now again with a 3bar MAP its running wonderfully. Just need to address my clutch slipping issues this spring and downpipe fitment issues and she'll be a dream to drive again.
