    RS3 Model Year Changes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I anticipate purchasing a RS3 in the coming months and was curious if Audi addressed any reliability or related updates since 2017.

Bottom line, options and trade in value aside, is there any advantage of one year over another?

    Thanks!

2017 2018 have more pops in exhaust and a body colored antenna.
2019 less pops, different little intake connector, black antenna, leather knee-pad things standard. The red color changed to Tango?
2020 has like B&O standard not really sure what else.

All DAZA engine. This applies to US market.

2020 S3 has a touch screen as well but I'm not a fan of the interior. Seems like more plastic and I'm not yet sold on the angular styling. It will be interesting to see what the RS3 looks like. Hopefully less cheap than the 2020 S3. :(

If I were you, at the moment, I would wait 1 more year, maybe the next gen RS3 would be more interesting for you OR 2018/2019 rs3 will be more plentiful used as some will upgrade.

I thought that for 2019 the tire pressure monitoring was standard. Also, are we talking about changes just in the USA or also for the rest of the markets around the world?
8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)

The big question is are the US and Canadian 2020 that are showing up now OPF cars? I would want to stay away from the 2020 if they have an OPF...

I'd love to wait for the next gen, but my ceiling is 50K :(

I agree that the second hand prices are crazy over inflated right now.

    Thanks!

There are 3 different versions of brakes, and I believe you need an early 2018 model or later to get the latest ones.

To be clear, this was an issue with the front rotors only, the calipers do not change. A good set of aftermarket rotors is a nice upgrade to any of the stock rotors.

I think you mean 2021 S3? 2020 doesn't have touch screen and those spy shots are of a sportback which I doubt we will get at the same time Europe does.

Yeah, for some reason the articles on that cameo car are listing at 2020 despite it not being 2020. Still, the new generation one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlAX_Bp6qJM

Makes me want to dump my RS3 for a TT since this is the last generation and touch screen only isn't appealing at all.

2020 wont allow you to configure carbon fiber trim with navigation package. I have that combo in my 2019 so not understanding what’s changed on that.

TT or TTRS? After having the 5 pot I could never go back to a 4. Completely agree on the touch screen only.

Does anyone know when 2020's are going to show up at dealers in US so someone can confirm whether they have the OPF or not? If they do I will get a used one instead of the 2020 I have on order.

isn't OPF for European models only?

i don't think the NA models have that... at least with the BMWs in NA they don't have OPF but in Europe they do.

but i could be wrong, since Audi isn't BMW... maybe someone can confirm?

Not really a change but Dynamic Plus which gave you ceramic rotors and 174mph top speed limit was only available on 2018 cars I believe. 2019 gained a wireless charger/cell signal booster in the center arm console area as well.
19' Ara Blue RS3, Milltek Mid pipes, XPEL front of car, ceramic coat on rest of car, 15% tint

Really? Talk about stupid nonsense... Clearly the carbon is now interfering with nav signal.

Pretty sure 2019s in NA do not have OPF. Audi just turned down the power and exhaust note

^^Yes it has been confirmed many times 2019 NA RS3s do not have the OPF but euro do.

I am wondering if anyone has looked under the 2020s yet to confirm they still didnt add them to NA models as it would appear Audi likes to sneak changes without notice.

I think he's mistaken. My 2020 came with nav and carbon trim/caps. Picked it up last week.

Can you look underneath and see if you have OPF coming off the engine?

I can take a look when it's back from the detailer today or tomorrow. Looks like it's part of the downpipe or midpipe? A secondary cat looking thing next to a cat? New to OPFs.

Best news ive gotten all month...(including march). Thanks

Since you seem to be the only 2020 owner around at this point can you confirm still no crackles/pops/bangs/whatever from the exhaust on down shift or when you let off the gas? Basically confirm it is still like the 2019 and not like the 2017/18?

    I got my build date yesterday...May 5th!

I have a 2020. I don’t hear pops or bangs on downshift but I haven’t put too many miles on yet.

Dynamic S mode I have mild crackles on aggressive upshifts and downshifts but they are very brief. No bangs to be heard at all. Nothing when holding rpm then letting off the gas (come from a very burbley car so I know all the tricks to make it happen, couldn't in the RS). Definitely sounds different than 2018s I've compared against. Currently being tuned and I can report back with the results after :).

Being tuned with midpipes helps get a bit more burbles, and I have a pop here and there depending on how hard car is being driven/hot the exhaust is.

It definitely does it more when the exhaust is hot. Also seems to do it more under medium to heavy braking opposed to coasting.

I am concerned about warranty for at least the first year or 2 so i probably wont tune however i think i will do midpipes as everyone seems to say they really help open up the good acceleration sounds. I also will be looking at a DV spacer/BOV or intake to try and get some turbo noises. Im excited havent really had turbo noises since my wrx and DSM days.

It stands for Otto Particle Filter. It can also be called petrol particle filter. It "saves" the environment, and on the RS3 (and most other sporty cars) it mutes the exhaust sound a bit.
