Hi, new to the forum. Looking for some help. My rear spoiler stopped working and will not go up with the button or at the speed where it should. I have no fault codes regarding the spoiler and when i do press the button after starting the vehicle you can hear the spoiler motor working and the light does come on. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone. I was looking at this thread as my rear spoiler will not go up or down. The button show the light on/off and I can hear it trying (motor sound) but nothing. I do not get a fault.
Suggestions? I saw the link but it is for a system fault. There is no system fault and I hear the motors running when I press for up and/or down.

    thanks

2013 Audi A7 Spoiler Actuator Motor Assembly Replacement

    Intro
Hello everyone. My spoiler was stuck down. It would not open or close using the button or automatically. I could hear the motor turning but nothing happened. I DID NOT have an on-screen Fault. I did try to unplug and then re-plug the controller, but nothing changed. After searching and only finding bits and pieces for this problem I finally just did it.
I did this in two sessions. First, I disassembled to test the actuator. In my case it failed so I knew what I needed. Then I put everything back. Second, I had my replacement actuator (made sure the part numbers matched) and made the change.

    Removal

Step 1 – Remove the rear cover by pulling on the handles on each side of the cover. These will simply pull away and the cover will drop.

    Step 1

Step 2 – Remove hatch lock cover and adjacent cover. Pull the hatch lock cover and use a screwdriver to release the other. You may have to pry the lock cover loose before pulling off.

    Step 2

Step 3 – Remove inside cover molding by 1st opening the access door and removing the two 25T screws, then pull the cover from the trunk lid. It must be pried off, but it basically snaps off.

    Step 3

Step 4 – Remove seven nuts, being careful not to drop them inside the housing. You will need a deep socket 10mm. Also remove two nuts, one at each light. Remove two screws (one each side) from rear light. Then remove two screws (one each side) from the outsides of the rear lights. I had a magnet just in case and to help in reassembly.

    Step 4

Step 5 – Remove the four wire connectors in the center area, each having a release. Also remove the wire connectors at each taillight.

    Step 5

Step 6 – Now you are ready to remove the rear section of the A7. Place your fingers underneath the spoiler wing and against the permanent part of the rear section. This will give you leverage to pull off. Note – you will need to unplug the “close” button wire before you can remove it fully.
Step 7 – Now you have removed the spoiler section. Next you will need to remove the actuator motor assembly. In my example the spoiler was stuck down.

    Step 7
There are eleven nuts to be removed with two having caps/covers.

    Step 7b

Step 8 – The actuator will separate from the rear section but there is a wire connection that needs to be undone first. However, at this point it is easy to test your spoiler to see if it actually works or not before disconnecting the wires. You will need a 12-volt power source (positive & negative) ends. Touch the two connectors shown in the image below and reverse them for the opposite direction. In my case the motor tuned just a little, but the wing never did open/close.

    Step 8

Step 9 – Unplug the wire to disconnect the actuator motor assembly and remove it.

    Step 9

Step 10 – Remove the wing by removing two screws on each end.

    Step 10

Step 11 – Remove these two screws if needed. In my case I needed to remove these as they were missing on my replacement part.

    Step 11

Summary – This was the last step in removal. I did test the replacement actuator before disassembling and installing it onto the A7. When reassembling the unit, make sure you test the wing alignment before the final tightening of the spoiler wing. In my case it could have used a little tweaking on alignment. But back in business!

    Final

    I hope this helps others.

I just want to say this thread is really helpful. I ran into a similar situation recently in my 14 S7. When I press the spoiler button, i can hear the motor work, but I hear some nasty grinding noise as if the gears are not engaged to open the spoiler. So now, its stuck and won't go up. What is the part number of your actuator?
