    Key Fob replacement 2005 a4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have had my a4 for 10+ years and lost 2 key fobs in 6 months...I am down to my valet key.

Do I have any other options other then going through the dealership? Audi told me ebay fobs won't program with it.

    They quoted me

    $84 key
    $124 Fob
    $149 to program it

    Looking a $349 plus tax

No need to bump a post 15 minutes after it was created.

I think with VCDS you can add a chip to the immobalizer. I believe you flush all known chips then add chips back in. Pairing the fob so it does the door locks is a matter of holding lock, putting it in the ignition and turning the ignition on, release lock, press unlock and hold it while turning the ignition off and removing the key.

What part? Do you want to pair the key to the immobalizer or just the fob to the car.

The key (so you can start it) uses a chip with a unique identifier. This is a form of near field communication.

The fob its self is like a garage door opener. Probably on the 315MHz range.

Did Audi say they won’t program a ebay key you supply? If so that is perfectly reasonable to say. If they said that a ebay key simply cannot be programmed to an Audi is wrong. Some probably don’t work, but I haven’t across any that haven’t worked.

Call around some Indy shops, they might be able to program it for you, but you might have to get the blade cut at a lock smith. Plenty of writes on how to diy out there.

He said he cannot- he informed me that audi/vw put something in their cars they makes it impossible... an extra security step for them.

All I care about is having the keyless entry work and car starting...

If you only care about keyless entry and having your car start, I have bought 2 key fobs from this seller in the past week and both have worked flawlessly.
So you can program the key fob to the car and keep using your valet key to actually start the car.
Otherwise, if you want a full blown key w/ immobilizer programmed to the car you will have to download EEPROM and get your instrument cluster code. Contact Audizine user cschuster or search on the forum for EEPROM.

I would like a totally working FOB with a key in it that starts the car? Will this ebay product do that?

You just need a competent (mobile or not) locksmith who knows how to make you a set of keys with fobs. Just do that for now.

If you are in this car for the long haul and plan to work on it yourself, save up and get the rosstech VCDS software and the official cable package. The enthusaist package is the best route for you at $199. You will need to get a (used/new) laptop that runs windows 10 as well.

If you feel more confident, you can begin screwing around with eeprom readers and such, but they are rarely needed unless you plan to fool with writing to instrument clusters/immobilizers and matching keys to clusters/immobilizers on a regular basis. But the frequency that you need that skill to keep you car running is few and far between AND can easily be farmed out to folks who do such things on a regular basis.

You can buy a $70 dollar ebay key b7 remote will work with your vehicle. You just nee to get it cut and programmed. Key is to get a OEM key not a "oem" equivalent but and actual Audi key with a blank. I have replied to numerous threads on this subject and gave a link where i ordered all my keys from. I never had any issue.Dealer is telling you that cause in certain cases aftermarket key will not work or dont have the id48 atmega immo pill inside the key. If you buy a NEW audi key fob it will work. Not to mention you will key a b7 style key fob that works!!

Does the new key start the engine as well as lock/unlock the doors? $95 would be a pretty good deal considering that the locksmith needed to do five separate actions...

    1) Pull the existing SKC
    2) Cut the physical key
    3) Extract the old and install the new immobilizer chip in the "new" FOB
    4) Program the new immobilizer chip
    5) Program the new FOB to the CCM

Yes lock and unlock and starts the engine, does everything the same way the key from the factory did. It should of been $145 dollars but having AAA gave me $50 off.

so werid, I used my old key after I found it last weekend and it turned my car into safe mode and would turn on then off. Had to reset my battery to get the new key to work again. Is that normal for the old key to work anymore once you program a new one?

when you program keys you need all the keys present, any keys not present during programming are erased.

I know IMMO3 once the key is learned to the car it can't be re learned to another car however the locksmith may be able to go through the programming process again and add your old key back. I've programmed a half dozen or so keys for B6s but never tried re learning a previously unpaired key since the cars I've done the persons has never recovered the lost keys.

Your old key will always work as immobilizer id does not change. Its a static id. Ita matter of adapting the key to comfort module. Key will still start the car the remote just wont work.

    Key Fob replacement 2005 a4

I don’t mean to jack a thread however I just got an ‘05 convertible with 140k miles, the key fob is in bad shape and I have some spare vws that I can use to replace the shell with but the mother board seems to be soldered on at the corners, I don’t want to pry too hard and break it.

The one in the vw one just sits on the shell and it’s easily removed.....
