    Chevron 94 vs. Husky 94 vs. Shell 91+ V-Power vs. Petro 94

    Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start a new thread as I'd spent a fair (too much) amount of time researching different octane levels of fuel and had even reached out to the major fuel companies to collect more information as I looked through many different forums.

On Audizine, here are some related threads:

Here's what I've dug up, hopefully, this helps someone else!

    Shell 91+ V-Power (Canada)
    NO Ethanol
    RON: 95.0 - 97.0
    AKI: 91

    Chevron 94 (Canada)
    NO Ethanol
    RON: 98
    AKI: 94

Husky 94 (Canada) - PREVIOUSLY SUNOCO
    Husky 94 w/up to 10% ethanol
    RON MON AKI
    Regular 87 92 82 87
    Premium 91 97 87 92
    P94 (P91+10% ethanol) 98 90 94

Petro 94 (Canada) - PREVIOUSLY SUNOCO
    Ultra 94w/up to 10% ethanol
RON: Waiting to hear back, but I've seen online they're rated at 101.5
    AKI: 94

Re: Sunoco - Sunoco bought Petro Canada and decided to drop the Sunoco brand name in Ontario for Petro Canada. According to Wikipedia: " In December 2009, Husky Energy announced that it has entered into an agreement with Suncor Energy Inc. and Suncor Energy Products Inc. to purchase 98 retail outlets in the Ontario market[1]. These gas station will be converted from Sunoco to Husky brand. " -- Wiki Article

Some Petro stations still carry the 94 octane, however, some people have said even though they say it's Sunoco 94, the blend is different. From Petro direct "I can verify that our Ultra 94 is the same as the Sunoco Ultra 94 used to be. When we merged with Suncor several years ago we also got the Sarnia refinery that makes that product."

    _ _ _

Given I had just installed the 93 octane tune from JHM for my RS5, I wasn't sure what fuel they recommended, as it's almost impossible to find 93 in Canada so I've been using Husky 94, however, we recently got Alberta's first Chevron station with 94 octane no ethanol. Speaking directly with their tuner, the reccomendation was to use the SUNOCO blend (Husky 94, Petro 94)

Most of the fuel in the United States, and Canada (Esso, Costco, Shell) have E10 unless otherwise mentioned (Chevron 94, Shell 91+).

The debate seems to rage on, about the benefits vs. downfalls of ethanol but from what I've gathered you get some knock protection and cooling properties from the E10 blends as they run richer, and use about 10-15% more fuel, however, ethanol contains less stored energy but does provide some oxygenation benefits.

    1. What have you found with logging, performance differences etc. if anything between the fuels available specific to your Audi?
    2. For those of you who have 93 tunes on your S5's, what fuel do you use in Canada/US? I know Michel is going to be testing E40 on his RS5.

Sunoco Ultra 94 when it was here in the states was the bomb but it's now 93 octane here. If you can get that I would recommend it I had awesome results in my turbo Subaru's when it was still here.

    I presume that’s 93 with 10% ethanol? Which brand/state?

Which state was the Sunoco in?

Also, heard back from Petro94, and they assured me it’s the same blend as Sunoco Ultra 94, as they purchased the Sarnia refinery. They also said it’s 98RON, not 101.5.

NJ is the state I'm currently in and that had Ultra 94 back in the day wish they still had it here.
