B8.5 S5 Sportback available with 6MT in the US?

Maybe it's just because the Sportback is less common, but I have yet to see one with a manual transmission. Or my google-fu sucks.

As an aside, are manual transmissions more common with the S5 Coupe vs. the S4? Another poster said 6MT take rate on the S4 was around 30%.

I would really prefer a sedan these days, have owned coupes for over a decade now.

A lot of people here would have bought the B8 S5 Sportback instead if it came here since it had the 3.0 supercharged engine which is a lot faster than the 4.2 V8.

I still don’t understand why Audi didn’t use it in the pre facelift S5.

Bigger was better. Hell at the same time, Audi was building a 5.2 V10 R8/S8/S6 and a 5.0TT V10 RS6. Absolute monsters! And come on, will that 3.0T ever be better, quicker and faster than a 4.2 SC?

But the 4.2 was never sc. Unless u want to pay another 15k to be a little faster.

Lmao spend almost $13k (JHM kit) labor included on a V8 S5 and it will still lose BADLY to a dual pulley 3.0 supercharged S5. Those modded B8.5 cars have dipped into very low 11s/high 10s with e85.

The APR kit was even more expensive and not as good as the JHM kit.

I’m a 4.2 S5 owner myself would rather go use that $13k to get an S7 or something that is faster stock.

BTW the 5.2 in the S6/S8 was different than the one in the R8/Gallardo. The V10 S6/S8 lost hard to the E60 M5, but both cars are very reliable in breaking down and leaving the owners frustrated haha.

4.2 will always have more character than the 3.0T man. Also, well aware of the difference in the 5.2s. I’ll also point out that the M5 isn’t the direct competitor with the S6... the RS6 is which I believe was faster than the E60 M5. Don’t ask me why Audi never brought it over here lol. Slightly modified, the RS6s were giving R8s a run for their money even though their weight difference is significant. I personally never broke down in my C6.5 S6, but I also was a preventative maintenance freak.

I’m with you in allocating the $13k elsewhere! But if I were in the market for an S5 and had to choose between an already SC B8 or modded to the teeth B8.5 S5 then I’d likely choose that V8. That’s just me though!

Haha, I have/had 3 of the mentioned cars.

I have a APR supercharged v8 4.2 with stage 3 clutch and it is a beast. It is super fun and the exhaust note is excellent when floored. Can't compare to a v6 sound, but I wouldn't fault anyone going dual pulley s5 esp since price is significantly less. APR can do low 11s for quarter mile.

Comparatively to an s7, a modified s7 is faster. I have a stage 3 and the power it puts down when you floor it is unbelievable. The torque and power never stops. But I find it less fun for daily driving b/c it isn't a manual. It is a quite practical car as it is large and has a huge trunk. Everyone stares at it when I drive it more so than s5.

I also had the e60 M5 with v10. That is the most glorious sounding car that I have ever owned and any underpass or parking garage, I would lower windows just to hear the exhaust note. But it was the absolute WORST maintenance car and MONEY PIT that I have ever bought. I think I spent 16k maintenance and repairs one year. What a POS car. It would die on you randomly too for no reason. It has scarred me from BMWs prob for a long time.

Audi Q5 3.0 EPL stage 2 single pulley (gone)
Audi Allroad 2.7 stage 3 (gone)
    Audi B5 S4 stage 3 (regrettably gone)
    Audi B8 S5 (gone)

Oof, thanks. I thought they were unicorns or something, even the B9 Sportback is relatively uncommon here, though I have seen them before.

The dots never connected in my head that I have never seen them on US soil.

Driven a variety of Euro cars but never owned one. Finding myself most interested in Audi in recent years. Always thought the 4.2 sounded exquisite

Also the B8 & B8.5 sportback which was sold elsewhere in the world did not have the MT as an option - s-tronic only.
