    B8.5 rear bumper cover

    First things first. I have a 2013 (B8.5) 2.0T base, North America spec A5. Non S-Line.

With that out of the way, I am wanting to upgrade/replace the OEM bumper, because I plan to install a dual-exit exhaust and aftermarket diffuser. It's just a headache of epic proportions to attempt to do this with the current non S-Line piece, and the one or two options that exist both suck pretty bad.

Ideally, I am hoping to find a B8.5 S5 or A5 S-Line (this would be 2013-16 in the US, I believe) used/replacement bumper. My basic question is this: is there any different at all between the B8 (2007-12) A5/S5 bumpers and the b8.5 bumpers? I may be mistaken, but they seem to share identical part numbers, which would lead me to believe they are exactly identical. The part number I'm referencing is 8T0-807-511. I have occasionally seen a p/n for 8T0-807-511L, but visually I can't tell a difference. I can spot a non S-line bumper, but the others are difficult for me to distinguish for precise identification. Most of these are from online listings, and of course, I'm using the most caution in trusting any listing information because I don't know how correct it is. I would hate to spend $300 or more on a used rear bumper, thinking the p/n was for a b8.5 S-line, only to find out too late that it was actually from a 2012 or older A5 or S5 and surprise, the valance doesn't fit. So I'm wondering, other than the lower valence, are all of these bumpers exactly identical?

So I really need some knowledgable input on this. Help! The more I search for info, the more confused I get. (Yeah I know, my bad for buying a non S-line A5 but too late now.)

The B8 to B8.5 rear bumpers differ only in a small contour around the taillights. Some people don't care, some people do. It's minor but it bothers me. You could technically "downgrade" your taillights to the B8 if you installed that bumper to eliminate the issue.

That's what I was beginning to suspect, was that the taillight shape was the difference. As you said it's very minor, but yes, that would bother me as well. So I would definitely need to be certain my replacement is for the B8.5 body.

It's troublesome that a great deal of the listings I find show a part number in the description as 8T0-807-511 (sometimes with an L suffix). Evidently this is a number found molded on the inside of the bumper cover. Not sure if this was an old p/n later superseded by a new one, or what the story is behind that.

The "parts.audiusa.com" site shows p/n's for these bumpers:

    8T0-807-607-A(GRU) for non-S-Line bumpers w/o reverse sensor
8T0-807-607-B(GRU) for non-S-Line bumpers with reverse sensor
8T0-807-607-C(GRU) for S-Line bumpers with w/o reverse sensor
8T0-807-607-D(GRU) for S-Line bumpers with reverse sensor

As if that confusion isn't maddening enough, the same site says each of these bumpers are for model years 2010-2015. Um, what? So odd. That aside, these are the results yielded when searching for a 2013 A5 base quattro, and their site proclaims exact fitment for my car.

Just for fun, I looked up the bumper cover p/n for a 2011 A5 base quattro and the site showed a completely different set of part numbers. So yes, there's at least that difference.

Interesting side note for whomever is interested, I came across a rear view photo of a B8.5 A5 TDI from Europe. It shows an identical non-S-line bumper cover as my car, but, with dual exhaust and of course, a dual exit rear valence. So just when I thought it was impossible to find a proper fitting dual exit rear valence for non-S-line A5 models, it appears that one might exist after all. Over in Europe, at least. (Still swapping out my own bumper cover, though.)

Yes, Europe gets a lot of little things that we don't. I am not sure if it exists post B6, but you could get a rear bumper with no exhaust cutout at all.

If it were me and you are replacing the rear bumper anyways I would go with the Xenonz RS5 setup.

I have a Xenonz RS5 styled front + Rear bumper for sale. They are painted Phantom Black Pearl (LZ9Y) but never installed on the car because of waiting for the front splitter and rear diffuser I got skinned in real carbon fiber 2x2 weave. I am selling because I ended up doing a full RS5 conversion where these won't fit as the quarter panels and fenders are different. My loss is your gain.
