    Bosch Aerotwin and canadian winter?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello guys,

Am I the only one having the worst experience with those oh so "good" wiper blades?
Bought them in mid november and they already work like crap. Suttering, middle of driver wiper doesnt clean, passenger one leaves mark.

If the fellow canadians could advice me another brand? Disappoinying cause I used to run the Icons on my mk4 jetta all year long without any issue.

I've gone through 4 sets of genuine Audi blades trying to get rid of the skipping. They still clear fine but the skipping drives me nuts!

Yep, i even modified the wiper arm itself so that it was so tight you could barely get the blade connector on, nothing helped. Wound up doing more damage then helping anything. lol

Those are exactly the ones I have, and they are the worst I ever bought.
Maybe you are not that almost in Canada :( cause they skip like hell and are useless in heavy snow..

20 minutes from the boarder haha but maybe my wiper arms in general are not as bad as some of yours

It’s kinda been light in the snow department for us tho thus far.

Edit : may be important to note tho that I remove all the ice from the blades and the surrounding area when wiping off the car. Obviously blades are less effective with huge chunks of ice separating the rubber from the glass

I have the Icon (Calgary, AB) and they suck. They are nearly brand new and as soon as we had our first half-decent cold/snowy snap I developed the cursed "mid-wiper" driver side streak. I considered that I "could" have possibly damaged the blade during install so I ordered a replacement... same same.

definitely gonna follow this to see what everyone else recommends.

My month old genuine audi blades are making a squeek noise when they get to the top and bottom of the wipe. This is my fourth set since purchasing the car in November 2017. Not happy at all.

Have any of you with wiper issues replaced the arms? Mine are skipping like crazy and it's driving me nuts. I pushed down (towards the windshield) on the arm while it was moving and the skipping stopped. I'm wondering if the arms are worn out but at $90 each that's an expensive guess.

When I had my mk4 vw, there was a thing used here in Canada that you could buy at a big known hardware/cars things store over here. It was a sort of push down spring to force the blade to get closer to the windshield and it worked really great.
I think though that it was somehow wearing out the mechanism of the wipers by making them work harder....

Take a look at old guy's fix to see if it applies to you. He placed a thin plastic shim in the arm-blade connector housing to remove slack.

    Google the Goodyear G159 tire.

Also I think the OP was looking for something for Canadian winters. Rubber doesn't work so well in extreme cold temps.

I don’t think Lake Erie actually froze this year but the lake effect hasn’t been too bad this season

I may have to retract my statement on these wiper blades tho after my ride In to work this morning. Had everything all cleared off and the wet snow just kept sticking to them and building up.

Bringing back to life this thread with a small update lol. Maybe someone will use this info : pulled the trigger and went and bought genuine Audi wiper blades from the dealer. No skipping for the weeks that I had them, everything is super smooth. The real test will be in a month or so with the heavy snow!

I live just north of Toronto having gone through 2 B8 A4s over 11 winters and 400,000 kms......... and have never replaced my blades and haven't had any skipping or noise. The OEMs have apparently worked great for me. I think there are so many variables with this (blades, how you clean your windshield, the weather etc.) that everyone will have a slightly different experience.......and different blades that will work for them.

My experience is similar. Five years, 35k miles, original blades, no skipping. I regularly clean the windshield with methyl alcohol (chaeper than ethyl) and particularly during bug season. I live in a country environment with a heavy spring bug load. Driving mostly in an urban environment you will see a much lower bug population, which may be your case.

But where do you guys park your cars overnight ? Indoor parking ? This plays a lot on how often and rough you use your wiper blades.

I'm in the Pacific Northwest with lots of rain and just starting the cold season. Daily driver, sits outside. I usually get 8 months/full year before I have to replace the blades. I either use OEM or Valeo Ultimates. Here's what I do. Clay window with my old "oh SH*T", I dropped it on the ground" clay bar that I can't (or won't) use on the paint (or use synthetic clay). Then use rubbing alcohol or monitor/keyboard wet wipes on the rubber blade insert. Wipe the rubber blade back and forth a few times - you'll be amazed at how dirty they are. Last part - treat windshield with Griot's glass sealant (not RainX - which smears). I don't have to use the wipers as much and it sheets the rain off. This lasts about a 2-3 months or so before having to reapply.

    This is the answer.
Mine got so bad it was dangerous. Skipped so much it didn't move any water.
Tried multiple different Bosch, OEM, random ones to try.. clay barred the glass, polished, rainx.
    No rainx....drove me nuts. Lol.

the Bosch aerotwins were by far the worst blade of them all for me

Bit the bullet and got PIAA. I'll never buy another brand for any car ever again. They are amazing.

Well I should probably follow up on this, they worked for about 3 months, then the problem started over again. I wound up just having the windshield replaced and that solved all my issues.

Well dam. I've had mine on for a few months now and still going strong.

Why are these windshields so bad? I've never encountered this ever before on any car I've owned.

I think alot of it is the wiper mounting system itself. The push lock system, particularly the 16mm is junk. The common theme between the blades I have issues with is that they wobble on the hinge point side to side far to much. I have had blades that were new that could twist up to 6" in either direction while the hinge was locked into the arm. Best solution IMO is to stick with OE replacement blades that do not have a universal mounting system. Trico makes a few, Denso, and Bosch all make direct replacement blades.
