Exclamation Tiptronic mode with steering wheel gearshift buttons

    Hello there,

I recently updated the steering wheel on my 2003 A6 C5 2.7TT Avant with automatic transmission.
The old wheel has only gearshift buttons and the new wheel have gearshift + multimedia buttons. See the attached picture

    Steering Wheel.jpg

With the old wheel, when the car was in direct drive (D) the gearshift buttons works -> by pressing Up or Down the car went automatically into tiptronic mode (without touching the gear-shift lever) and you can change gears directly from the steering wheel. After several seconds the car went back to direct drive (D) automatically.

With the new wheel, this function is not working. When the cas is in direct drive (D) the buttons on the wheel dont work. Only if the car is put into tiptronic mode via the gear-shift lever, then the buttons are working and you can change gears.

Does anyone knows how to fix this issue? I really want this feature back. It is so useful!

The new wheel comes with its own MFSW module (just a double relay) and a clock-spring.
Everything on steering wheel is working perfectly - multimedia buttons, horn, airbag, lighting of the buttons... So I assume that the MFSW module (the double relay) was connected properly to the car.

The service where the conversion was made, has no idea how to fix this, so any help will be highly appreciated.

Do I need a newer MFSW module? Or I have to wire it differently?

    Thanks.

If I remember right when my S6 was an Auto the coding for the active shifting at the steering wheel was 01002. My guess is that MFSW requires a different module or coding. Possible the MFSW doesn't do it either. That coding actually just seems like a lucky glitch that it works, since I don't think VW or Audi list it anywhere as an option for coding.
But check your TCU coding and see what it is now. Try 01002.
