Noob BBS CH-R wheel fitment questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys. I'm looking at a set of 18x8.5" BBS CH-R's locally, et35 for my '01 S4 with a Stoptech ST40 BBK, H&R sport springs, front fenders lightly pulled. I was hoping to figure out if they'll fit over the ST40's before I buy them, and also anyone's BTDT on fitment, and also if I'll need spacers (10mm, 12mm, front/rear?) and hub centric rings.
I've been reading through the wheel/tire thread on here, just so many variables I'm not sure. I was planning on going with either 225/40/18's or 235/40/18's.
    Thanks in advance!

You should be good with no spacers. If you do need them 3mm will do. Both tire sizes will fit.

Go with the 235 width tires, it'll fit and fill out the 8.5" wide wheels better.

    18x8.5 ET35 CHs clear 4-pot Brembo GT & Stoptech ST40
If you opt to go with 235's, go with skinny ones like Conti DWS.

Can you get the CH-R's in ET35 for 5x112?

My 18x8.5 5x112 are ET38 and required front spacers to clear the stock brakes. Thought the only options for 5x112 CH-R's was ET47 or ET38.
Regular CH wheels are available in ET35, you sure you are not looking at those?

I could be wrong on the "R" part. I attached an image of the wheels, if you zoom in you can see ET35 I believe, but I haven't seen the wheels in person yet. Feel free to correct me.

Yep those are regular old CHs. Great wheel - not super light but a nice and strong.

Make sure to get a set of taper seat lugs. Looks from the photo that the current owner might be using ball seats with them (eek!)

225s work well with these but do give a tiny bit of stretch. I have tried running 235s on these (Toyo Proxes) but get some minor rubbing up front.

Ok. So the ET35 should clear the ST40's then is what it sounds like? I'm kind of on the fence about the tire size. I'm always a fan of putting a wider tire on, but not a fan of them rubbing too much also... Tirerack has a smoking deal on some Cooper's for $100ea. In 235/40/18 that I was going to go with, tread width is 8.2".
I think I've read on AZ that you can get lugs directly from BBS USA, so I might just call them.
On that note, for lug length, it sounds like the general consensus is that spacers will not be required front or rear with ET35? Does anyone have a shot of their CH's on the front end with or without spacers?
Thanks for all the help 👍

CH012 w/ Brembo GT F&R. Stoptech calipers are skinnier than the Brembo ones.

Those wheels cleared 8 piston brembo caliper from b7 rs4 with no spacers, but it was very close. IMG-20110222-00039%20(2).jpg

Another narrower 235/40r18 is the firestone firehawk indy 500. Have on several cars and one of best bang for buck summer tire going...

happy2B5; I had those tires on my Challenger R/T and loved them. I don't think you can beat them for the price. I'm either going to get them in 235/40/18 or the Coopers that Tirerack has right now for $100 each also in 235/40/18. The Cooper (8.1") is a bit wider than the Firestone (7.8") for listed tread width.

I have them on current s4 on 18x8.5 et35 wheels. No rubbing no spacers and the car is quite low at sub 25 ftg...

And to parrot off_set post above, I have run 245/35r18 on 9" wide wheels on previous S4 and liked them a lot. 245/35 has an ever so slightly smaller overall rolling diam than even a 225/40 in like for like tire brand/model. And obviously even less than 235/40...the 35 profile is livable with the 245 width. Not too harsh.
    For reference...

Please do post up final decision. Hate unfinished threads. We all like to see the end results...
And to add to discussion, we had bbs ch 012 on an avant. I was running 225/40's on those. I was using spacers, just for personal aesthetics and not to clear brakes. Honestly, stock hp2 calipers can be more of a clearance issue than a lot of reasonably sized bbk like st40's.

Noob BBS CH-R wheel fitment questions

I went 245 for the extra contact patch and to fill out the 8.5” width. The car actually had 245/40 that it came with on some advans and it was too tall of a sidewall for my taste

watch for cuts on the outside of the rubber up front. Especially if fenders are not rolled.

Rears are rolled/flat from the factory. You should be fine with rolled fronts. The car looks fantastic! CH's are one of the best wheels for the B5.

Also, the CH's clear the Stoptechs much better than the 17" Avus wheels. I probably have 1/4" between the caliper and rear face of the wheel spokes. There was hardly any clearance at all on the Avus.

Im considering getting same size of tyres. Were 5mm spacers needed to clear the rear uprights? And are your fenders rolled? Thx
