    Audi S5 Lane Keep Assist

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Team,
I am in the process of retrofitting lane keep assist and ACC. Since I’m in Canada I can’t just go to the dealer and purchase a new windshield with the lane keep assist camera mount and heater built in. I was hoping someone from the UK or outside of North America with an A5/S5 b8.5 can send me their windshields part number.
    Thanks a ton

I'm in the US and have ACC and Side Assist. Prior to this I had not heard of this. Some googling and the feature is Active Lane Assist (ALA). It is available on the B9 platform but apparently some have attempted/succeeded on retrofitting on earlier platforms/models.

blind spot assist - lights inside of mirror modules in rear bumper and button in driver side of speaker cover.
lane assist - camera in front windshield (new one needed), new combo switch and clock spring. the lane assist is at the top lever which is being pointed to in above picture.
ACC - needs cluster, new acc radar, wiring, combo switch and clock same as ala lane assist if doing both.

I ASSUME since you are in process you already have a lot of information but I did find a few threads.

    Hi Neil,
Thanks for the quick response, I have seen all those threads, however, I have not been able to get the part number for the windshield. I contacted a windshield supplier that imports pilkington branded windshields but needs the model number to see if he can import the windshield. I bought a b9 acc radar sensor and can confirm that it will work with b8.5 but their are some nuances with the b9 lane keep assist camera that I don’t think I will be able to figure out unless someone with a lot of money and time is willing to look into.1. Will the b9 a5/s5 coupe windshield fit on the b8.5 2. Will the lane keep assist camera be able to communicate with the b8.5 modules (stalk/power steering/cluster). For this reason I want to be 100% sure I can’t get my hands on a b8.5 s5 windshield with camera mount prior to giving up on the idea.

I have to ask if you are doing this for the technical challenge/fun? After quick reading, it just does not seem worth it. The functionality of the lane assistance it not that fantastic.

My UK RHD B8.5 sportback has factory ACC, ALA and SA. It's not clear where the p/n would be on my windshield - probably hidden behind trim.

FWIW I agree with Neil F - the value of ALA is not worth the cost and effort to retrofit: The camera is designed to see lanes on German autobahns. It often loses sight of the fading lines on UK highways. Is road maintenance in Canada up to that of Germany? Then there's the intervention - the steering wheel only gives a slight push and then vibrates as the lines are crossed. If I relax grip on my steering wheel (can't be hands off as the system detects that and disengages) then it will only adjust position on a fairly straight road. It seems to rely on the vibration to notify the driver to make adjustment to the drift. Unless I forgot about a setting that I turned off, it doesn't provide any audible warning.

Yes I saw that, but I don't believe that its the information you need. As far as I can see the Audi p/n should be 8T0 845 099 followed by a letter according to the correct options configuration. Whilst the data printed on the windshield helps determine the glass itself, a supplier would have to check the VIN to know the exact model. Nevertheless if it helps here are the codes on my windshield:
    DOT618 M451 102 AS1
    E20 43R 00348

Agree here, I find the ACC a complete annoyance, it is intrusive and almost dangerous to use on the roads here where cars cut in front of you and your car brakes hard to create a gap it is trying to maintain between you and the vehicle in-front.

ALA is 'okay'. The roads here are all in very good condition with well painted lines so the system works, I can be hands off the wheel for a few seconds until it disengages, I could scotch tape a bag of sugar to the wheel to simulate my steering input and get a good 30 minutes sleep on my drive to work.....unless its raining! If it rains, the camera struggles to detect the road markings, same goes for bright sunlight after the rain. I also find there is considerable force required to overcome the system, say you wanted to change lanes without using the turn signals, the car will fight me and attempt to push me back into my lane until I overcome the system. I have the vibration turned off on mine as I just find it annoying.

In all honesty, both those systems aren't worth retrofitting, the side assist has saved me a few times and is a worthy addition.
