Anyway to remove exhaust sound completely in the 3.0 Cars (S4, etc)?

Is there a way to completely eliminate exhaust sound for the 3.0 B9 cars ?

Many of you love it - but to me it is not the greatest sound, even in comfort setting, especially in city cruising going from light to light.

To me it sounds a bit 'droney' and artificial in the cabin sometimes, especially with foot on the accelerator.

Love everything about the car, but would enjoy it more possibly in 'stealth/sleeper' mode with less exhaust sound - more engine if possible.

    Any suggestions are appreciated!!

The drone you're hearing is likely the Soundaktor, have you turned it off with VCDS / OBD11 / Carista? It will make a massive difference inside the cabin.

I had the same issue when I got my S4. Thought it was annoying since my G37 exhaust was really quiet. Turning off the soundaktor helped a little but it is a very subtle change I thought. I actually thought maybe there was an issue with the exhaust. I have almost 20k on my car now and never notice the exhaust, if anything I think it could be a little louder now. Just keep driving, you will get used to it.

All that soundkator does is put the car into permanent 'comfort' mode - it does not eliminate the way the exhaust sounds. Some days I'm OK with it - and it's not the worst thing ever. To me unless the exhaust sounds absolutely 'right' (RS7 that I had, V10 cars, etc) - I'd rather it be silent.

No Model 3s for me either. I like my gas engines.

even in comfort mode the soundkator is still on, i think at about 30%. Should code it to 0.

The car only really makes noise now in sport mode or cold startup.

You can't get rid of an exhaust sound, it's inherited by the fact you have a combustion engine. There is an exhaust valve that you can have closed but you will still need to leave a valve open or your engine can't breath.
Otherwise, you have to start droning out the exhaust with other noises. Opening up your intake will likely help with that, and you get the turbo and slightly louder engine noises - or turn up the soundaktor

I turned off the Soundaktor thing with the OBD eleven and it is notideably quieter. When I go to dynamic and the valves open, it's notideably louder.

I passionately hate even the concept of artificial noise. Either you have a hotrod and want to hear a grumble or you enjoy a luxury car. We have the best of both with a simple switch (valve).

I got my S4 used and was wondering is there only one valve on the muffler? I only see one on the right outside tip.

Reason that I ask is that I heard some rattling from the exhaust when on an parked, and was wondering if the valve was broken or the servo not working properly, etc.

I’m with you. However, I want to hear the real sound, not some stupid computer’s interpretation and enhancement of it.

I don't think our sound is piped in, it's the tried and true sound of that german masterpiece that sits under the hood-feel free to tell me I am wrong here. Thats what I meant by German engineered masterpiece, the engine not the sound.

Actually, the sound is piped in with the Soundaktor.

more like increase frequency vibration rather than a fake sound. But yeah, it's not the actual sound, it's amplified artificially, which is why I coded it out.

gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I love the sound and the fact I can calm it down in comfort.
