    Immobilizer reprogramming help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a 2004 a4 to fix and flip. The immobilizer in the key isn't programmed to the car. Previous owner wouldn't come out and say what happened but the key skin looks new so I'm guessing he damaged the original immobilizer chip. There is a chip in the key now. It will start fine but shuts right back down because it's not getting the signal. This is the only key that i have for car. Is there a way to program the immobilizer to the car or will it have to go to the dealer? I have vcds if it's possible on there. Pm me if anyone knows how and I'll send my number to talk me through it

Wait you’re telling me you have the Ross tech software? If so just google the procedure and follow it

Every thing I've found says how to do it if you have a second key. I can't find anything on only having one key and programming a new immobilizer to it

You need to download a program like “VAG K commander” to pull your SKC code from the ECU. Once you have that you can program the key with VCDS no problem.

I've been in the same boat. Read my thread on this topic here... https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...?highlight=key

In short, I found that VAG EEPROM 1.9 was a better choice to retrieve the SKC.

You also might want to consider disabling the Immobilizer.

#1. You'll need a need remote/ key fob or MegamosID48 chip if the old one is broken. I have a whole pile of those for some reason.
#2. Use a Ross Tech hex-can cable and Vageeprom to read the SKC
#C. Then use Ross Tech to adapt the key.

It's not terribly difficult; like any job just need the right tools.

Sure. Check my thread though as I seem to recall I detailed it pretty thoroughly there, if only for my own future use.

I think Vageeprom is very finikcy about which cable you use. I've only been successful with A HexCan cable with 'boot in intelligent mode' disabled.
Also, install the program on the desktop of your PC AND run it as ADMIN. Always. Doesn't seem to work any other way. for me it will only partially work if the program is not installed directly to the desktop on my laptop. That's a weird one.
But I have it also if you haven't made any progress:

Thanks again everyone for the help. I finally got the eeprom to work and pulled up what i thought was the 4 digit login pin but when i try to enter it in to vcds to program the immobilizer it says "login incorrect for controller". Im so close to burning it all and walking away

Are you putting a leading zero before the four digit pin in VCDS? You have to have five digits to login...

I guessing you either have a new key that isnt married to the car or you have a cheap china copy that doesnt have a immo pill inside. 9 times out of 10 when I have done immobilizer key adaption people buy the cheapest shit then get butt hurt when it doesnt work cause its missing the pill and still have to pay my service charge. Gotta pay to play. Login code will be 5 digits. if you have 4 digits put a zero at the beginning.

Are you login into module 17-instrument cluster to enter the code??? That's where you need to login to adapt a new key.

Thanks for the reply. The key does have the immobilizer pill. I do have a 4 digit code and entering a 0 in front of that code. I may have been trying to enter it in immobilizer section. Can't really remember now. I'll try it tomorrow

Once you have the SKC this is the instructions:
    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...hing_(Cluster)

FWIW, VagCom won't give you an error for log in if the key or pill isn't right. It'll still log into the adaptation and you can still attempt the key matching.
THIS PART is important, it tells you if your key is being seen and is valid/ ok to pair:
    -----
    [Select]
    [17 - Instruments]
    [Meas. Blocks - 08]
    Select Block 022.
    [Go!]
The value in field 3 must be 1. If value is not 1, the key is not capable of being adapted to Immobilizer.
You can check each key in this manner.

This will tell you if you've entered the wrong login too many times and it'll make you wait a while:

    Select Block 024.
    [Go!]
Make sure the shown lock times in field 1, 2 and 3 are 0 (each field represents a time in minutes).
If the lock times are NOT 0:
Do NOT switch off the ignition!
Allow the car to sit for AT LEAST the number of minutes that were indicated by the fields 1-3.

Check those things before you even try the login.

Agreed. I used my dumb eBay cable - no intelligence to be found in that one, so nothing to turn off. And even with that, the first time I tried to login it didn't work. I tried again, changing nothing, and it worked fine on the second attempt. No idea why, and now that I have my SKC I'll probably never need to use VAGEEPROM again.

I forgot about the lock timer. After i waited to the timer to end it logged in. Now i think the immobilizer chip/pill is damaged. It's in the key but the car is not detecting any key. Im guessing the last guy that put the key plastic together probably damaged it. I'll try to find an authentic audi chip and report back

You don't need an authentic audi chip. Just go on Ebay and search "Megamos ID48 RFID". As rollerton pointed out above, that is the chip that is used for Immo 2 or 3.

Buy a bunch so you always have some. I bought 20 years ago for $30. Just used up the last one six months ago. Helped make a lot of spare keys for friends and co-workers in that time...
