Since the engine is in so few car models (few Audis, a few Bentleys) you don't have very many choices. I have been using Mahle filters and never any problems. Slightly cheaper than the Audi filters and Mahle/Mann have a good reputation with German applications.

Mann has a good reputation with the Audi because they make the OEM filter.

For the 4.0T in his vehicle, Mahle is the OEM supplier.

N2B, good info. I suspected that Mahle was involved with OEM filters but could not find the correlation the other day. I knew Mann built for the 3.0 but wasn’t able to figure out who made the V8 filter.

Both are quality filters and you can’t go wrong with them. Now with that being said, they are not your only choices. There are lots of studies published on the web that go into great detail about many brands out there and if I remember some of them correctly there area limited number of filter manufactures in the world so there are several identical filters on the market that the only difference on them is the name brand.

I would link to some of those studies but I am having day after Christmas laziness and don’t want to take the time to Google them. If anyone else is industrious enough to do so then please do. We all know the spoiled kid from NZ that started this thread certainly will not do a google search to help himself out.

There are many manufacturers but not many that make a filter for the 4.0 application. Look it up. You have Mahle (which as someone else said is OEM, not MANN), Fram (extra guard and not ultra so I personally stay away based upon what I read on BITOG), Wix which is more expensive than Mahle, then some no names.
