Rear door won't open from outside

Recently I have noticed that after unlocking the car one of my rear doors will no open from the outside. Once it is opened from the inside it then functions fine. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like the lock is stuck.

Same thing just happened to me today. And, yes it seems like the lock is stuck. Has anyone else encountered this and if so, how did you fix it?

same thing on my rear driver side door. have to pop it from the inside first, then works fine until its locked again. I was thinking it was the lock assy. taking a shit.

It's the lock actuator. There are a couple parts cars in the classifieds. Should be able to get one for $40-50 or less since there are more cars out there than when I replaced my drivers rear. It seems to be common.

Watch this video for how to remove the door panel. He does a really nice job of showing you the orientation of the clips. I recommend doing this in a warm garage so you don't break any plastic for the CF/al trim and handle trim. If you don't have them, get the plastic removal tools. Cheap set at Harbor Freight.




From there, take the triangle plastic access panel off. Then unscrew the actuator from the outside edge of the door with a torx, unplug the harness, unhook it from the lock. My issue was reaching it to pull it out. Thankfully, wifey has small hands and got it out.

Same thing happened to my rear passenger door. The lock mechanism needed to be replaced.

Cross reference the part numbers. They are the same as a Porsche Macan and the cost was much less (almost 1/2) of the Audi part.

If you let it go too long, you won't be able to open from the inside either, then you're screwed. Happened to me and it took dozens of tries until it opened.

Edit: just found the order for the part - Door Latch Assembly. Door Lock Actuator Motor. Lock. LOCK ACTUATOR. . Rear Right 8K0839016G $110.83

Thanks Silver Streakin and Cooper993 ! And thanks OP because this has been randomly occuring to me too.. Just enough to annoy me but not enough to make me research and fix.. Now maybe.. especially of that warning of it failing from the inside too!

A month ago this started happening on RF door and yesterday the driver door started not unlocking and opening with outside handle, I guess my Xmas present to myself is 2 new door lock actuators......
