Audi A6 2014 MMI not functioning

    Hello,

Last week while driving my A6 I've noticed that my MMI screen was stuck on a current radio station. I tried to switch to navigation but the screen was still frozen and then I realized that nothing was working.
Radio was playing normally, but whatever button I pressed on central panel (nav, tel, media, radio, back, car, volume etc.) nothing was working.

I stopped the car, hard reset MMI but the problem was still there, the screen opened and radio was playing the same station. I drove home like that, turned off the car but the screen was still on playing radio. It turned itself off after 5 min.

I was driving like that few more days but after the second day additional thing started to happen, MMI was restarting itself every 3 min. during driving.

I've contacted the official Audi dealer and scheduled an appointment for the next week. Meanwhile, MMI stopped restarting but instead just shuts itself off after 5 min. of playing same radio station. I've noticed that after I turn it on, central commands do work for 2 sec. maybe and then everything is like before (not working).

I presumed that maybe SW needs to be flashed or reinstalled again with an update.

Finally I went to the dealer and after 5 hours of work time, they told me that the problem wasn't solved. Car wasn't showing any error codes, they reinstalled MMI software but problem was still there. After the MMI Audi boot logo, the picture is stuck at the initialization.

Dealer wanted me to leave car for couple of days so that they can find what is causing the problem. Scheduled the second appointment now on Tuesday.

Audi A6 2.0 2014 with 105000 km / 65243 miles, regularly serviced at the authorized dealer here in Serbia.

I searched the forum and found a similar problem: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...2#post12428782

One more thought, I wasn't driving my car for one month before that ride when problem accrued. Maybe that impacted something I don't know, the battery is good, car is garaged...

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and sorry for my English.

    Best regards!

I actually bricked my MMI trying to update the navigation 2 years ago. Dealer quoted $4500 for new one. I went on eBay and bought a used one from LKQ for $250 with 90 day warranty. Installed it myself and dealer charged $200-300 to program it. Don’t pay for a new one from the dealer. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the reply guys!

Tomorrow the car will be left at the dealer and I will wait for their response. They are expensive that's for sure, but after all, these cars are like that, complex and expensive to maintain. If the problem opens to be MMI unit (4G0035670), I will go for the used one probably since I already planned to sell this car and go for the newer model.

I will keep you updated as soon as they tell me what is the cause of this problem.

    Hello,

Sorry for not answering earlier to this thread, since I promised to update the info about this problem.

I will try to keep it short.

I did bring the car to the dealer, and they try to solve the problem with software change and isolating all the other "closed loop" parts to see if maybe some of them are causing this.

After 7-8 hours of work time, they've concluded that MMI has a hardware problem and it needs to be replaced.

The price for the new replacement MMI (with their work time included) would be around 3900$. Which is the amount that I wasn't prepared to spend on a car that I was planning to sell even before this situation occurred, it would basically be lost money.

So I started exploring and found a small firm that specializes in repairing car electronics.

Called them, started explaining what is the problem, in about 10sec guy on the phone just said bring the car. Next day the car was there, it took 3 min. to pull MMI out and they said that they will call me when it's finished in a couple of days (sooner if it happens to be the part that they already have).

Two days out my phone rings, MMI is repaired, tested and I can bring the car back for MMI installation. They explained to me that it was motherboard hardware problem, and it's not an unusual thing to happen.

PRICE: 270$ with a guarantee on their work!!!

Fast and quick, guys were amazing. They are the only ones that do this kind of work in our region, no matter the car manufacturer AUDI, BMW, MERCEDES, PORCHE, FERRARI, VW, FORD, RENAULT etc., they can fix it.

And that's it, the problem was solved without the need for a new replacement unit.

I am from Bulgaria and I would make a trip to Serbia to eliminate such a problem.
