    Q5 vs GLC 300

I been researching the B8 Q5 for some time on the forums and feedback of current owners. This car will be for the wife. I was pretty set on getting her a 2016 3.0T S-line. Sounds like this platform is pretty reliable and fun to drive. The other day we saw a GLC300 so we sat inside one and the wife noticed the interior bits were superior. Not a bad looking CUV. I have read some good reviews on it as well. I understand the only engine option is a 2.0T outside of the AMG series. We still need to take both on a test drive to see the power difference of the 2.0T 241hp vs. 272hp 3.0T.

The question is for people that were shopping for a Q5, did you also take a look at the Mercedes GLC 300. Both are similar price range for a 2016 with same mileage. I believe the Audi community is far more involved on the forums so I also factored in troubleshooting help and diy stuff since I do all the work myself when it comes to repairs.

I have never been in the 300, but have extensive time behind the wheel of it's bigger brother, the GLC 63 AMG. Looks wise is totally a matter of opinion, but quality definitely goes to the Audi imo. From my experience the Mercedes has way more squeaks and rattles. The Audi just feels more solidly put together. I also prefer the intuitive nature of the Audi MMI.

My wife was set on a GLC300 until we test drove a 3.0t Q5. The GLC is much smaller inside, or at least it feels like it. It’s underpowered. The trunk is significantly smaller. And the Quattro is just superior. The interior styling is subjective and everyone has a different taste. The glc300 we almost bought looked a bit more high-end, if you will, with the matte trim pieces and the overall shape of the dashboard plus the beige leather interior. At the end of the day we still got the Q5 for all of the things I pointed out and just the overall driving experience. My wife is not a spirited driver by any means but I can tell she enjoys how the q5 feels and drives. I got it tuned recently with an EPL Stage 1 tune just for a bit more power and it’s more than enough as a daily small suv.

Also, the Q5 generally needs less repairs than pretty much any Mercedes model.
