Very nice job putting together the tests and discussing the results! This confirms what other tuners have been saying regarding minimal gains with aftermarket intakes. It’s good to see a real world comparison.

Nice comparison! Intakes have always been mostly sound until power increases to the point that it's an actual restriction, but also note that the system that performs the strongest is the one that preserves the factory cold air tract and introduces a filter with the largest surface area.

Any of the intakes actually making power over stock (however small it is), follow this same path. Throw something like a Roc-Euro in there and I bet it's the worst of the bunch. It makes nice noises but it destroys the factory cold air path and just breathes hot air. Something for all to keep in mind!

Great Video! I happened to find it today on youtube before this post and I was surprised by the results and that you live close to me. Good job and thanks for doing it! Did you notice any difference between stock and other two with throttle response?

Just wait til the CarbnLabs Turbo inlet is released....You'll see better results than all those.

Never count your gains before they're actually measured

Ill plat though. My guess is the biggest gains come from one like the ecstuning open air intake.

Ive done a crapload of tgese tests on a number of cars going as far back as b7 a4 and as long as there is air flowing over the car it seems the most open intake with biggest tube and largest highest flow filter generally does best. Even heat shields made no difference in the b8 s4 testing as long as the car was moving. Now sitting in staging lanes stagnent is where they come into play

We've measured the gains, it's in prototype stage right now.

The general design is to use a 4" filter and then gradually decrease the diameter to match the ID of the turbo inlet. One of the other guys measured a 3-4mph trap speed increase, which equates to around 40bhp increase. All the other intakes try to match the ID of the stock turbo inlet, we didn't do that. We made the entire piece one hose from turbo inlet to filter.

Sorry hadnt realized you weree testing it. Thats interesting and makes a case for eurocodes turbo inlet pipe too. Im interested in your silicone TIP. Looks like a great piece. Exciting stuff. Let me know when I can get my hands on one

We've already bought the Eurocode one, ours is bigger. This one was also designed using CFD.

Any update on this inlet? Any photos? testing prototype? I'm interested. I'm sure an improved filter (like the BMC 906/04) in combo with a larger inlet should show a nice gain.
