    What brakes (calipers) on A6?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I keep hearing the S6 guys mention how great there brakes are being 6 piston. From what I see the A6 brakes have a pretty big caliper.

Anyone know if these are 2 pistons or 4 pistons or which?

Motorweek tested both the A6 and S7 and the A6 was 119 feet while the S6 was 2 feet shorter at 117 feet.

I guess the extra weight of the S6 hampers the braking ability a touch. In saying that the S6 brakes look way better!!!

Just out of curiosity, what brake upgrades are popular for the 3.0T A6? Anyone using SQ5 Brakes? Factory stopping power isn’t bad by any means, just curious.

FWIW the S6 will be able to do that more than once.
That's the real advantage of huge brakes.
Look at a lot of American cars with itty bitty brakes, they'll still stop in just about the same distance, but don't ask them to do it more than once.
2017 Chevy Malibu stops in 117 feet.

If you weren't going to go the S6 route then go whole hog on a Brembo kit.

SQ5 is still floating caliper and while larger than the A6 it is still smaller than S6 and doesn't have a fixed caliper.

This looks like a nice fixed 4-piston Brembo kit. Claims plug & play. Would have to paint/coat those calipers. I believe they are off a Q5. A bit smaller than stock A6.

Interesting thanks. Dumb question - I’ve never been well read on brakes... can you go to a larger rotor on the same calipers?

Usually no, but sometimes just a different caliper carrier bracket is needed to move the caliper out some. Assuming there is enough space inside the wheels.
A6 and S6 use essentially the same rear caliper, albeit the S6 is painted, but the S6 has a larger rear rotor 356 v. 330. So you need an S6 caliper carrier to accommodate the larger rotor if you wanted to go that route on an A6.

I want to eventually upgrade to S6 calipers as well. Has anyone done Q7 calipers before? They look similar.

Interesting... Similar, but not same. Q7 caliper appears to be made by Akebono instead of Brembo and disk is 375mm.
Also fitment on a C7 is likely unknown.

I’d think a brake pad and a better fluid would make a big difference if you wanted to do more spirited driving.

The RS 8-piston calipers found on the B8 RS5 and many other RS cars are a nice bolt on upgrade. I paired mine with 380mm girodisc rotors.

Typically when you tune your ride with more HP you want to upgrade the stopping power. The two piston stock calipers aren't enough in my eye's, I am looking for S6 calipers for upgrade, 6 piston and wider pad surface should handle the HP gain.

Honestly, a big component for me is the aesthetics. I only have a 2.0T. Ha.

If all you care about is aesthetics, then consider caliper covers. Personally, I would never do them, but they’re cheap and would improve the look.
