If I can't get an RS6, I will likely "settle" for an allroad.

It looks great - and is an awesome alternative for a more 'daily' version of an RS6. Very excited to see one in person.

    Here is my rant:
I was originally thinking I would be ordering the C8 allroad and was really excited about it, until I went to the build page. I love my b8.5 allroad, but need a larger vehicle for family and height/ legroom reasons. The options we are getting in the USA are boring and very minimal. I know we can go the exclusive route, but I would prefer not to wait over a year for that to be produced... I am amazed the decisions AoA is making for the new release of the a6 allroad and with the lack of details thus far on the RS6. They will blame the consumers that; "see Americans don't want wagons after all", after sales aren't great due to things like this. My issues with the USA specs:
    - No option for "HD" dynamic matrix headlights/ taillights still (I think the base LED's are ugly and love the look of the HD Matrix lights)
    - No sport package options at all, which includes no sport seats or sport steering wheel. Instead we get the "comfort" range...
    - Only 2 interior color options and only wood grain trim...(not even a chestnut leather or aluminum trim)
    - Still no black optic options...
    - One ugly wheel to chose from.
    - I would love a full paint option in a non pearl/metallic color.

I hope we get more options later, maybe next years update with minor face lift changes, otherwise I have already started looking at used Panamera's and even the Volvo V90 CC..

It’s pretty comprehensively equipped. The options you mention would be nice but I imagine they limited choices to contain costs. I personally am ok with the comfort seats. In fact I hope they offer them on the RS6.

Compared to the C8 A6 and S6 build sheets, the allroad has nearly half the options. I think I would be fine with the comfort seats, I would just expect more than 2 color options, especially when the A6 currently has 7 options. I think the headlights are one of my biggest disappointments with the A6 allroad. All of the marketing images that have been released up until now had the HD Matrix. They look much more aggressive and sleek, whereas the regular matrix LED looks kind of cheap to me. Hopefully it looks better in person, or maybe they will grow on me, but after all the costs and hassle of trying to get what I would actually want, I would be better off getting a Panamera Turbo or try and figure out how to just get the RS6 Avant. I guess I was just too exited for the A6 allroad, so once I saw the build sheets, all the excitement was squashed.

I did a couple builds for comparison, USA option vs possible Europe options. I will be curious what the dealers say about how many options we can do with the Audi Exclusive route, because I think it could be such a phenomenal looking vehicle.

I do agree that the lack of some basic options like different wheels and black optics are unfortunate, I'm not sure I can wait for AoA to catch-up to the Euro options. Maybe the 2021 model year will have more options, maybe not. Either way, the 2020 version looks to be a great car and certainly something on my radar.

The problem I have is availability and dealers at least in Denver seem to be getting fully loaded P+ models when for about the same price you can have a base Prestige for about the same price with a couple items not on the P+ most important of which is the HUD.

Well took one for a test drive and pulled the trigger. Sitting at the dealer now finishing things up.

I’ve always loved the Audi wagons and this one just drives great, looks great and will get me where I need to go.

I’ll miss my 2016 S6 but the A6 Allroad will definitely soften the blow. Wasn’t willing to wait for ordering one to get a couple items not on this P+ Or waiting until April ish to try and find a dealer swap.

More than happy with the one the dealer had available to drive home.

That is Awesome, congrats! We will need some pictures and an update after you've had it a few days! You are the first person I have heard who has purchased one so far!
I need to see if any have shown up in the Springs to test it out. I have been super curious to see how much you can actually raise and lower with the air ride system also.

Well after the drive home not much more to report. Some lag off the line if pushing it but the drive is nice. It doesn’t raise as much as the SQ5 I was considering but it will definitely get me where I need to go in the mountains. I also love the look when it’s sitting low.

Going to take some time to get used to all the tech changes from the 2016 MMI.

I’ll report back after more time behind the wheel.

I think the a6 and a7 get the same disappointing USA spec headlights. I had a prestige A6 as a loaner last week and I tried playing with the lock unlock sequences you see in all the marketing videos. The front didn't have it and looked completely different.

It looks like the A6/A7 at least get the better looking HD designed versions. Below is the comparison of the A6 USA spec HD Matrix (red) vs the a6 allroad Matrix headlight:

The A7, S7, RS7 and the RS6 Avant will be getting the really good looking HD Matrix "Laser" version, which is one of the best looking headlight designs in my opinion. I saw the RS7 in person last month and the front end looks incredible. Different shape than the A6 variant.

I stopped by the dealer today ... and they had an A6 Allroad on the floor. He said it just came in and is the first one in our state. It’s a handsome car in person. This one was white with the dark cladding. The stock wheels looked great with this combo too.

WTF with Audi and their wagon EPA highway mileages?
    2019 A4 2.0T sedan gets 34 highway, 2019 A4 2.0T allroad gets 29 highway, 2019 Q5 2.0T gets 27 highway.
    2019 A6 3.0T sedan gets 29 highway, 2020 A6 3.0T allroad gets 26 highway, 2019 Q7 3.0T gets 25 highway.
Only 1mpg better than the heavy aero brick that is the Q7 (450lbs heavier and .05 more drag cw)? And the A4 allroad doesn't seem too bad a loss, till you realize BMW's 4cyl wagon here was rated at 33 highway, same as it's sedan brother.

Audis were never known for good mileage. Actually, they are terrible.

    At least mine.

A few more quick pictures and some initial thoughts after a few more brief drives.

Throttle lag is painful. After doing some research this morning I am not liking what I am reading. Turning off auto start/stop function appears to have little impact on the issue. Going into Sport mode improves the situation but I don't want to drive the car in sport mode full time. I will have to see how to overcome the issue. While making a left turn yesterday from a stop, it was concerning as I hit the accelerator to turn into an open space between cars and just sat for a bit before the acceleration kicked in and got me through the intersection. This isn't just a case of going from an S6 V8 to a different engine either. It reminds me of my wife's Range Rover which we got rid of after less than a couple years because the transmission and engine didn't seem to play well together.

Throttle lag aside, the car drives great. Smooth, fun and feels extremely solid. I will definitely be spending some more time in the car over the next 60 days as I head up into the mountains a few times which will be a 2 1/2 hour drive and my wife and I had a road trip planned for the end of February going from Denver through Santa Fe, Tucson, Scottsdale, Grand Canyon and then back to Denver.

I just hope the throttle lag doesn't completely destroy the ownership of this vehicle for me. My wife is already giving me a hard time about it.

And sorry about the one picture being the wrong orientation. I can't seem to figure out why that is happening when I upload it or how to correct the problem.

It is a very good looking wagon!!
Very anxious to drive it now hearing about the lag. One of my biggest problems with my b8.5 allroad is the turbo lag and transmission hiccups, scary sometimes... Also, is the exhaust tucked completely under the rear valance?
